but windows has no problems accessing the share.. and all other apps has no problems with it.

it is only MP that has the problem.

plus it was working fine on earlier builds, and nothing has changed on the system(s) since then.

ok it appears that it needs write access to a folder, and not just read access.
as i have given MP full admin rights the folder and now it is displaying the pics.

any reason why MP would need write access just to display pics ?

I have similar problem and came to the same conclusion: it needs to write to the directory, for no obvious reason...

...maybe MP should always write thumbs?
