Default Overlay Modus unusable with Movies Playback

Area: Media Portal Program - My Movies
MP Version: 0.2.0.0 RC
Skin: Blue Two
Windows Version: Windows XP + SP2
CPU Type: Intel celeron D 2.4 GHz
Memory: 512 MB
Motherboard Chipset: Shuttle SB61
Video Card: Asus Radeon 9200SE
Video Card Driver: latest
Video Render Type: Tried Overlay, had to switch to VMR9 Renderless
Video Codec Type & Version: DScaler Filter
Audio Codec Type & Version: AC3 Filter
TV Card: Hauppauge PVR-150
TV Card Type: hardware
TV Card Driver: 2.0.18.22316

With the current software Overlay is totally unusuable. When you pause
or skip the movies with cursor left/right, the OSD is flickering and
most of the times not visible. I can live with that...

When I checked with GraphEdit I also see sometimes that Overlay isn't used.
(using CTRL-G) even when it's explicitly selected. I am also wondering how
the Overlay settings is recorded in the MediaPortal.xml file. When I check the
code at ..\Configuration\MoviePlayer.cs LoadSettings method it's not completely
clear how VMR with value "0" or "1" is interpreted beside the Overlay setting

However I have a big problem with the quality of VMR vs. Overlay. With
Overlay I get much more vivid/contrasty Movie playback. Even when adapting
the 3D Color in ATI Control Settings I can't get these nice results as I
get automatically with Overlay.

Further the run-time settings for Brigthness/Contrast/Gamma also doesn't
seem to work for VMR, so that doesn't help either. I have this behaviour
since 0.1.3.0. So there seems more bugs related to the quality settings of
Movie Playback

Is there anybody still succesfully using Overlay with Movies Playback?
What kind of settings do you use?

My System

Default

This sounds very strange to me !!!
I have the same problems, but there´s a big difference...
... I´d like to play all Movie Files in VMR9 because while playing in VMR9 mode I can change and adjust contrast and brightness very well using Powerstrip (with ATI 9600XT ,latest drivers, watching over TV-out). I don´t know why, but files with extension .mpg are always (no mattre wich codec or renderer I choose in configuration) displayed in overlay mode. DVR-MS aswell as *.avi files are displayed in VMR9 mode. Using ffdshow doesn´t change anything.

You asked if anybody is still sucessful using Overlay with Movie Playback.
Answer: Yes, but I´d like to switch to VMR9

I think it´s importend for you to know, that if also I´ve set everything to display in VMR9 some files ( *.mpg) still are displayed in Overlay.
