Hi,

After the update to Mediaportal RC1, I can not watch the History Channel HD anymore, my provider is Multikabel in The Netherlands I have a payTV subscription and smartcard to watch this channel.

Strange is that I can watch History channel using the FireDTV viewer, the software Digital Everywhere provides with their tuner cards, however I have huge lip sync problems using this software.

FireDTV uses a MPEG1 Audio Decoder
VMR9 video renderer
Cyberlink H264 video decoder
Default Audio renderer

Because I can watch using firedtv viewer and not Mediaportal, I asume it is a mediaportal problem.

I have set Mediaportal RC1 exactly the same as the last 0.2.3.0 version I used and working with History Channel HD. (I made screenshots of every setup screen)

I tried VMR9 in stead of EVR in mediaportal, no help
I tried H264 hardware acceleration, No Help
I tried H264 without Hardware accelleration, No help
Changed Audio renderer back to default, no help

The message Mediaportal shows, is eather that it cant start timeshift because the channel is scrambled or it cant start timeshift because 'No Video/audio detected'

Note that all other HD channels under the same payTV subscription work fine (discovery-HD, HD-NL, NGC-HD)

Any ideas?

Thanks

EDIT 30-04-2008:

I have checked the logs I added a few minutes ago myself thoroughly, and found out that there was a conflict in channels that are for other providers. You see, there was a merger between three digital cable TV providers a few weeks ago, and now my transponder also picked up several channels that belong to another provider.

So there was a History channel on frequency 826Mhz and a History Channel on 234Mhz, Mediaportal TV server picked the first one which does not belong to my cable provider so my smartcard/CAM could not descramble this channel, because I am not entitled to see this.

The solution was to delete the frequency 234Mhz from the transponder list, delete the SQL TV database and do a channel rescan. Now only One History channels is found and I can watch it again.

There were a few more channels in that frequency, but did not watch anyways, so for me this was a good solution.

Before I created the log below I have updated everything to the latest, except the ATI X1250 video card drivers (8.3).

Realtek HD audio is now on version 1.91
Latest firmware for the FloppyDTV (April 15 2008)
Latest driver for the Floppy DTV (November 2007)
Latest software update for the Alphacrypt CAM (3.14)

I also completely reinstalled the mediaportal and TV server RC1

Opened Mediaportal Debug tool
Mediaportal test tool opens automatically and start generating a log
Mediaportal opens automatically
- open My Tv
- open working H264 channel first (NGC-HD) works fine
- right click to get OSD, click on TV Guide, scroll to History Channel, click on it to try watching.
- error occurs, OSD telling me "Cant start Time shift, Channel is scrambled"
- right click, to goto previous window, click on cross to close Mediaportal
Test tool proceeds and creates an error log

error log attached to this message

History channel works in firedtv viewer, but not in mediaportal

History channel is part of the same payTV subscription as NGC-HD

History channel uses the same HDTV format as NGC-HD (H264 at 1080i 50Hz PAL)

It has worked in one of the last 0.2.3.0 SVN I used, sorry, but I cant remember which one that was.

Thanks for the help in advance

I just read my own log and I see dates of April 6 or even March.. I dont get this why this happens. I deleted all directories before I reinstalled Mediaportal and generated this log zip file..

I will try again, because this makes no sense...

there seems to be an issue with the testtool in RC1. it takes the logs from the wrong location.

please manualy attach the TV-Server and MediaPortal logs after the test.

to find the logs use the "MediaPortal logs" and "TV-Server logs" shortcuts in the start menu.

EDIT:

we've just noticed that there is something extremely strange in your MediaPortal.log

Code:

have you applied the OLD svn build of MediaPortal from 2008-03-14 after you installed MediaPortal 1.0 RC1?

To answer your question, No I did not apply an old SVN to the new RC1 installation.. I am a little smarter then that

But there might be an explanation for what happened.. I think, but is still a little strange and should not happen IMHO:

In chronolical order:

I had a pretty good working version of mediaportal 0.2.3.0, where History Channel worked OK, as I said I am not
sure what the last version of SVN/TV server I sued , but it must be one between 5 and 15 April.

Then RC1 was released, and decided to do a completely clean installation, and tried to remove Mediaportal and the TV server.. Uninstalling worked as it should, everything was uninstalled.. but then I noticed that the Team Mediaportal directory, under program files was still there, so I tried to delete this folder manually.. and this failed.. windows reported that there was still a program busy using it.. which was not true, and as far as I could see the directory was empty. (maybe some hidden files were still there that I could not see) whatever I tried, restart, cold reboot.. it was everytime busy and I could not remove the directory..

Ok never mind, I install RC1 anyways..all goes as it should, except that I cant watch History channel HD.

I try to fix it by rescanning a few times, change the transponderlist a little etc, no help.. So I decided to go back to 0.2.3.0, because that was working OK the last time I used it.

So I Uninstalled RC1 COMPLETELY, as well as the TV server.. and this time I could also delete the directory Team Mediaportal.

Installed 0.2.3.0 Tried a few SVN's but now also with 0.2.3.0 did History Channel not work anymore, so I uninstalled it again, completely, also deleting the directory worked this time. and reinstalled RC1 Mediaportal and TV server... But again I could not watch History Channel, and then I started this thread to see if you can do something about it.

I think the Uninstall process is not really removing everything as it should, and leaves some files or registery entries behind that now interfere with the new RC1 installation.. and with the few times I unistalled and installed everything, I can immagine the registery is pretty messed up now.

I will make a new log when I have the time,

Thanks so far!

Hi again,

I have now added some fresh logs.

Manually removed all previous logs first by deleting all log files and bak files from the log directories (under ../program Data/Team mediaportal/mediaportal/logs/... and under ../Program Data/Team Mediaportal/Mediaportal TV server/Logs/..)

Opened Mediaportyal test tool.
started mediaportal from the test tool button,
In mediaportal opened my TV, National geographic HD opens normally, watched for a minute or so
Navigated using TV Guide, to Discovery channel HD, also watched for a minute
Navigated to History Channel... does not work, OSD warning, says channel is scrambled
Tried again, again it says Channel is scrambled.
return to previous channel, now going back to where I started watching Discovery Channel, Mediaportal stops working where timeshift recording ends.. closed mediaportal, and log are generated by the test tool.

Then manually created the two added zip files from the Team mediaportal log directories (Mediaportal and TV server)

I hope you can discover something, why I cant watch History Channel.

Thanks in advance!

Problem Solved!

I checked the log myself thoroughly and found out History Channel was found two times during the channel scan in TV server. This is caused by the now also Technical merger of three cable providers, so my transponcer list picked up a second History channel. Result was that Mediaportal picked the first it had found, which does not belong to my cable TV provider, so it could not descramble this channel.

Deleting the transponder frequency with the alien History Channel, delete the SQL TV database and do a channel rescan solved the problem. There were a few more channels on the faulty frequency I did not watch anyways, so for me this was the best solution...

For the devs here :

BUT, what if this happend when History Channels was found in a transponder with channels I DO want to watch?? How could I make TV server to skip the channels I am not entitled to, and keep the good ones?

Idea for the Devs: When channels are found on multiple frequencies, check for able to descramble YES or NO, keep the one that can be descrambled delete the one that can not be descrambled... Now TV server just picks the one it finds first... and in my case that was the wrong one. Or just put in a pop up window, where someone has to make a choice between two frequencies. as most of us do know the correct frequencies for the channels they are entitled to watch.

To be honest, I am not really sure this happened, but is my logic to what I have read in the logs and what I see in TV server. Please do not hesitate to correct me if I am wrong..

I also edited the first post.
