Exclamation Random channel scan crashes and missing channels...

TV-Server Version: 1.0RC1 + SVN18951
MediaPortal Version: 1.0RC1 + SVN18951
MediaPortal Skin: BlueTwo Wide
Windows Version: Windows XP SP2
CPU Type: Intel Core2Duo
HDD: 2x160 GB
Memory: 2GB
Motherboard: HP Laptop
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS
1. TV Card: FireDTV
1. TV Card Driver: 4.8.0
MPEG2 Video Codec: Nvidia PureVideo
MPEG2 Audio Codec: AC3Filter
h.264 Video Codec: CoreAVC
Satelite/CableTV Provider: DVB-T Swedish Boxer
TV: Samsung LCD
TV - HTPC Connection: HDMI

I get random crashes when scanning channels. I have made a full removal of the old installation, installed 1.0RC1 and the SVN released last friday (without running any configuration in between the installations).
After this I fire up the TV Server configuration, choose my location and hit the scan button. The result is the following:

During scanning, it sometimes finds channels on a transponder, and sometimes it reports "No signal". So if I scan a number of transponders, it finds a few channels on a few transponders, and after completion, if I just hit the scan button again, it might locate a few more channels on other transponders. In the log you can see that for the transponder at 506MHz, it first does not find any channels, but after pressing "Scan" again, it finds channels.

If I use any other software to scan (included software or Mediaportal 2.3.0 + SVN from December 2007), it perfectly finds all channels with 100% signal strength!

On top of this, I get random crashes. During scanning, I get a Windows "fatal application exit" and the TV Server configuration application is closed, and the TV service gets terminated (I get the question if I want to start the TV server on next launch of TV Server configurator).

Logs has been attached for the following scenario:

Launch TV Server configurator
Scan "Sweden Malmo - Jagersro 1" - A few channels found
Scan "Sweden Malmo - Jagersro 2" - A few channels found
Scan "Sweden Malmo - Jagersro 1" - A few more channels found than in first run
Scan "Sweden Malmo - Jagersro 2" - CRASH during scanning

I started experiencing this problem with SVN builds released in january 2008. The problem does not exist if I use a build from early december. I use MySQL and have a single seat configuration.

Translation of swedish error message in the error.log:
"En befintlig anslutning tvingades att stänga av fjärrvärddatorn" - "An existing connection was forced to turn off the remote host computer"

Really liked the new installer! Good work guys!

Best Regards

Update: I just realized that I see the same kind of crash during scan in this thread:
No radio, crash on DVB-T scan ...
The correct english translation of the error message seems to be:
"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"
So maybe the cause is the same?

ehm... i finally succeeded in scanning completely disabling dvb epg grabbing (even in idle state) and restarting the tvserver
i guess that was what made it go mad
thanks for the help, after succeeding with the flydvb i'm going to try with the skystar2 and report

Disabling EPG does not do the trick for me!

I get the exact same behavior anyhow!

I have attached some really short logs from a clean 1.0 RC1 Refresh to this post. Please could someone have a look at them? The only thing I can find in them is that after (int time) the last line in tv.log, which is:

2008-05-09 22:41:33.828125 [8]: Scan: tuner locked:True signal:0 quality:0

The following appears in tswriter.log:

09-05-2008 22:41:34.15 pmt parser check1

And one thing seems to keep consistent, and that is that I ALWAYS get a "pmt parser check1" right before the crash of tvserver.exe. This line ONLY appears in the scan cases of a mux that leads to a crash! What is this line?

Also, is there any way to get the current directshow graph of the tvserver? I can use graphedit to hook up to MediaPortals graph, but the tvserver does not seem to "export" its graph in the same manner!

I have a very clean system except for MP, and as I have said before, if I go back to a SVN before christmas for tvserver, everything works perfect and the tuning process finds alls my channels instantly with 98% signal quality on all of them!

Best Regards

Updated logs for SVN 19069! Problem still exists!

I have again made sure that psisdecd.dll and mpeg2data.ax are of correct version. Are there any other files I could check?

I also did some backtracking on this issue, and it seems as it was introduced in svn17329. svn17325 works perfect for me when it comes to scanning, but svn 17329 and onwards all seem to have this problem (ok, I didn't really test ALL of them,... ).

So what happened between 17325 and 17329? Did something change which requires some changes to the windows installation (like psisdecd.dll) or something like that?

Please help me sort this out,...

Best Regards

I have the same issue.

I did a clean install of Vista (32bit). I installed only 1.0RC1 but still get the same error.

I have read elsewhere it could be having x2 DVB cards in the same machine, but never had this issue before.

Will take out the second card and see what happens.

Sounds like some issue with the PMT parsing code in the TsWriter. Please create a full TS dump by following instructions: Debugging/TS-dumps - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation That way we should be able to reproduce the crash on our side also.

You could also help us by providing a memory dump of the server process when it crashes: Debugging/MemoryDump - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation
