I use the stock engine included in 0.2.2.2 with the most recent SVN build. Why don't I use the new engine?
1) I tried it and it just wasn't there for me. It was slow to change channels, wasn't ordering my channels properly, and it didn't like it if I cancelled a recording while it was recording it.
2) I'm using a single-seat installation and I use a Hauppauge PVR-500 card for recording. This pretty much eliminates all but a handfull of the added features in the TVserver.
3) Setting up the guide and channels is a real pain. I don't feel like doing this again until I know I won't have to switch back due to bugs.
I'm really looking forward to when this goes live, but I think it still has a ways to go. Then again, the old engine I'm using still hasn't been entirely finished. (Since going to SVN builds, TV turns itself on when I go to Scheduled Recordings or LiveTV screen or TVGuide while a tuner is in the middle of recording a show.) Overall, I love MediaPortal. I've tinkered with just about all of the other solutions out there and no one comes even close to the features, looks, and ease of installation/use that MediaPortal has. Hands down. I love it. |
