You dont need to search a database to do that. there are files for mame that come wtih all the information
there are
Mameinfo.dat
History.dat
Hiscore.dat
cheat.dat
nplayer.dat tells you how many players each rom has.
controls.dat
one of those dats cant remember which has all the names in them he just needs to add those files and make it scan the roms.
