I actually didn't expect anything more than additional sharpness and better audio, so I'm pleased with Blu-ray (and HD DVD) quality I've seen on discs.

I can think few reasons why some people get disappointed by HD-material:

- Some people simply expect too much.

- Some people don't good enough display device for HD material. Even expensive FullHD TVs can have really bad PQ.

- The originals were bad already. I've seen countless movies on cinema which has had really bad PQ +/ have had really bad audio track. Packing it into HD format doesn't make it look better.

I'd choose blu-ray over DVD anytime now, no more blurry picture with big screen. HD discs tend to have little more quality control too but that'll probably change now that format war is over. I still remember some DVD's I've owned that had worse PQ than movies on VHS tapes.
