I'll look into how Windows decides which codec to use; google should be able to help there.

For GraphEdit, I tried two different versions:
- Something called GraphEditPlus (no version number)
- Directx9.0, build 021204

Now I strongly suspect I am using a too old version (I am on Vista), so you do you happen to have a link to the correct (latest) version, or otherwise maybe a tip on how to look for it, since google gives many results on "download graphedit".
