Default codec guide?

Hi,

i have HTPC and I install MediaPortal on them. MediaPortal is great peace of software but everythig about all this codec is very complicated for normal user. I have yamaha 5.1 reciever connected to HTPC via Toslink . HTPC have SoundStorm sound card when i use programs like PowerDVD or BSPlyer or Winamp, everythig is ok. 5.1 works fine.. When i use media portal i have little problems. I don't know witch codec i must use and what i must setup for 5.1 sound. I try to use diffrent codec but some of them works ok for 5.1 sound, but than i can't change volume in mediaportal. Others works ok, but picture isn't ok.. Can you suggeset me witch codec i must use for DVD, VIDEOS and TV and what i must setup in this codec to work fine. I'm not basic user, but codec isn't my proffesion. I preffer to use ffdshow in others program. I have intervideo, nero, dscaler, ffdshow... etc.. Thank you,.

.. PS. just one question. Can I connect exsternal satelite reciever to my mediaportal. I have DIGI TV package and humax reciever. Can i connect via S-video to my tv card? What i must setup in mediaportal to eneble this option..

If core team members decide that it is worthy, by all measn it will be added to the wiki.

If that comes to pass i hope we can package it up into a mediaportal codec pack. Heres hoping.
