Country: | hi guys I also have problems with the subtitles. A few weeks i only installed vobsub, which works fine with the mp setting and the mapped button on my remote. Since 3 days, after i did a reinstallation for the complete os, i wanted to try ffdshow and haali. what works for me? if i want to change the subtitles within mp it gets the right subtitle streams (names) by haali and i can switch through them. but they are NOT shown in mp. After activating in ffdshow they are shown and i can change the language within mp but i can't switch them off. When shown "untertitel aus" / disabled the first subtitle is used. somebody find a way to fix it best regards chefkoch

I just checked the show subtitles in ffdshow config and then it worked. If I want to change the font I also have to make the adjustment in ffdshow. I think the problem for me was, that an .ax file couldn't be found when I first installed ffdshow. When I installed ffdshow the first time I didn't choose the right folder for virtualdub and avisynth. The second time I installed ffdshow I choose the right folders for virtualdub and avisynth and then there was no problem. About my remote... I have not tried to map my remote yet, but I will try when I come home (I'm on holiday). Is it possible to make the mapping in hauppauge's own setup? Before ffdshow remote will work will I have to disable the "sub" button in MP? /Nyll

You dont disable the sub button, you actually link it to a function, so when pressed it does what you want (you can pick any button you want, doesnt have to be the sub one). But first you should uncheck the show subtitles in ffdshow config. If that does nothing (you still see subtitles) then configuring the remote wont do anything. But if it does turn them off then you should be able to 'map' a function to one of your buttons on the remote to turn off subtitles.

| I think the solution is in the ffdshow video decoder config in “Keys & remote” but I can’t get it to work. I’ve mapped a key to “Show subtitles” but no luck with that either. |

| Portal Member | I'm also a bit confused about how sub files are supposed to work in MP. For an avi file with same named sub + idx they seem to appear no matter what setting I have in mp-config|movies|subtitles. I notice that during playback the subtitle dialog from the main menu appears blank when using sub files. With DVD's or .mkv's you can use the menu subtitle dialog properly (as well as reassigning subtitle key to # which DOES then turn them on/off). Subs do however ALWAYS default to on regardless of any settings you make in MP for mkv's (Matroska files). SOLUTION:- One thing that does work is to use this tool:- http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ to merge the avi and sub(s) files into matroska format (takes about 2 mins). To play it back you will need to Install haali matroska splitter http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/ AND THEN run haali media splitter settings and set Options|compatability|Autoload VS filter = YES. YOU MUST do that or MP WILL NOT EVEN play back Matroska files containing subtitles. Obviously you will also need to install VobSubFilter to see the subs from here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm Last edited by HappyTalk; 2006-09-06 at 15:53. |

| Portal Member | Hi Guys, Don't know if you're still checking this thread, but i was having similar issues, MP would play the subtitles but i couldn't switch them off, i only wanted 'forced subtitles' I'm not sure what i did to get it to work but i unchecked 'subtitles' in MP Configuration, opened VobSub configuration in the installation directory and fidled with that, and hey presto it now only shows the force subtitles. there is a check box in VobSub Configuration to 'show only forced subtitles' and 'show subtitles' maybe you have these checked. Have a look and let me know how you get on. |
