Default DivX issue

Hey I seem to be having issues getting DivX AVI's to work! I just downloaded MediaPortal and have tested the Audio (plays music fine) and now I am trying to play a movie and it does not work. I click the movie and it makes a noise and nothing happens. I re-installed the DivX codec but it still did not help. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Hi n321,

Will it play in a dedicated DivX player? i.e. Outside of MediaPortal?

Cheers,

Nick Name.

yes....Media Player 10 and Classic as well as DivX's player all play the videos just fine. I had this issue with MCE at one time but could never fix it. I have XP Pro Now without MCE.

Hmm... That's odd... What file extension do the file's have? It should be '.avi'.

I believe MP uses Media Player 'in the background' to play DivX. I guess the next step is check the MP logs and see what the issue is. If you post the logs here as well as complete the support template, you'll get a lot more help from others with more knowledge of MP than me.

I know this doesn't help you at all but I recently started using Nero's MP4 format instead of DivX.
IMHO it's easier & a lot faster (like 2X) then DivX to encode and I have not had one issue with audio & video being out of sync. All I had to do was add the '.mp4' file extension to MP and it worked immediately and 'yes' it does play in Media Player 10...
It might worth looking at in future?

Good luck,

Nick Name.

please attach themediaportal.log and if created error.log to your first post after you tried to play that file.

btw. are you sure that it is a divx and not a xvid or 3vix ?
which version of divx have you installed?
which version of MediaPorta are you using? (applied an too svn-build maybe?)

Sorry, here are my logs, attached. I am using Media Portal 0.2.2.0. I am VERY sure that they are DivX files as when I play them in Media Player 10 the DivX logo appears! I have the latest DivX 6 Codec and re installed it last night! Thanx for the help let me know if there is any other info you may need.

I have seen this error with the latest release of divx codec, try an earlier version.

This worked for me, 6.25 in use is fine but 6.5 fails to work within MP.

Also: latest DivX gives (me, anyway) navigation issues.

Default Another suggestion

Hey n321,

If you need the official divx itself for some reason, then this will not help you but if you are just looking for divx avi playback (and almost every other codec you can think of) then you should give ffdshow a try. I literally haven't found a media file since that MediaPortal can't play (divx, xvid, mp4, mkv, mov, etc). FFDShow will handle them all.

Good luck,
Beesoc
