Since I updated to the 0.2.2.0 build (and since then any of the latest SVN or previous builds) of MediaPortal the FFDShow doesn't start when playing videos or watching TV. I have been able to partly solve this by using various other codecs instead, but it's quite annoying 'cause I get a pretty much better quality when using FFDShow. But what's weird is that FFDShow starts as it should when I play the same videos in explorer or My Theatre. It doesn't even work when I uninstall all the other codecs, use the M$ DECCHECK and choose FFDShow as the preferred decoder, and choose it in the mediaportal configuration. And by the way, I'm using the Haali Media Splitter too. Does anyone have any clue to what could be the problem? Thanks, Micke |

Country: | Hi, which version of ffdshow do you use? What do you mean by "it does not work"? Are the videos not played at all, or does MP choose different codecs? Anything to see in the LOGs? Flip. |

Country: | Hi again. I have just updated to the FFDShow 2007-03-10 release without success. Well, MP chooses to use different codecs. I've checked with graphedit too, but it shows that the media file should use both FFDShow Audio and Video, which MediaPortal doesn't. I've now checked the error.log, before and after the new install of FFDShow. Before it gave some error about not finding the FFDShow audio and video decoder. Then I uninstalled the current version and installed the latest, the files plays up nice in Windows Media Player, but not at all in MediaPortal now. It now gives an error in the log: 2007-03-11 00:04:43.203125 [ERROR][MPMain]: PlaylistPlayer: *** unable to play - E:\Series\Lost\Lost - 3x11 - Enter 77.mkv - skipping track! I'm new to this debugging too so, not sure what to look for. Thanks for checking into my problem anyhow. /Micke |

Country: | Hi, hmmm. Does this only happen to MKV files, or also to AVIs encoded with DivX / XviD? Tried to reinstall Haali after reinstalling ffdshow? Did you set ffdshow as postprocessor in MP settings? This is not necessary, ffdshow should be picked up automatically for XviD / DivX. ffdshow works here with success. Seems as if something is screwed up in you system... Flip. |

Country: | Hi. No it happens to all files, including AVI's. But at least they play now, but are upside-down. I will try that, re-install Haali. I have now tried with adding FFDShow Audio & Video Decoder in the Movie Post Processing, without any luck. Yeah something seems to be extremely screwed up here =/.. Perhaps it would be best to a clean sweep and format/re-install windows, if the re-install of Haali don't work I'll consider that. /Micke |

| for what it's worth, I recently upgraded my system to Vista after a full system hardware upgrade. I encoutered ffdshow not working on my system as well. The problem ended up being that I was configuring ffdshow right after install and I only had YV12 checked, however, with the new setup I have to have YV12 as well as YUY2, YVYU, UYVY, and NV12 checked (could be less..but I checked them all and it started working so I left it alone). not quite sure what the difference was other than I went from an Nvidia card to an ATI card. with your video being upside down...have you made sure the "Flip Video" option in the output settings of ffdshow is unchecked? old setup: Asus P4P800E-Deluxe P4 3.2ghz 1gb DDR400 6600GT agp Auzentech X-Mystique BenQ dvd-rw 1x30gb pata boot drive 2x160gb pata storage drives new setup: DFI NF4 Ultra-D AMD X2 4800+ 1Gb ddr400 x1900GT PCI-E Auzentech X-Mystique Fusion HDTV5 gold same Benq dvd-rw 1x40gb SATA boot drive 2x500gb SATA storage drives |

Country: | Hey Micke_L, You can try to force ffdshow in post processing in MediaPortal configuration: In the MP configuration click on "Movies" and then select "Movie Post Processing". You want to add "ffdshow video decoder". It might be named something slightly different but should at least have both video and decoder in the name. Double click it so that it gets added to the box on top. Make sure it is checked. You are now forcing MediaPortal to use ffdshow for video. To do this for audio, go back to the same "Movie Post Processing" section and this time add "ffdshow Audio decoder." Add it to the top box and make sure it is checked. Complete the exact same steps above in the "Television" section and ffdshow will be used with TV in MP as well. You should be all set after that. Hope it works for you. Beesoc |

Country: | Thanks for all the tips, but unfortunately the problem is still there. Even after a format/re-install of windows, and only installing haali media splitter+ffdshow, mediaportal won't use the ffdshow. I'm totally out of ideas now =/.. I've also run DECCHECK and marked "ffdshow Video Decoder" as the preferred decoder, but no luck. I am btw using Windows Media Player 11 now, maybe that can be the problem? Thanks for the help, /Micke |
