HTTP ready to build. But what software install. Codecs ect ?

My system is a 6600 GT with a mobile 2500 barton. Dvico HDTV Plus HD tuner. Two 200 Gig plus HD's. Audigy 2 ZS. Soon to be HDA Explosion sound card.

On a Abit Nf7-s 2.0 Mobo.

Just wondering what codecs to use. I want to be able to play Divx/XVID and AC3 and HD WMV and HD Divx.

Also In what order do i isntall all those Patches for DRM/dxVa HArdware accelleration and those things need for MediaPlayer 10 to make it work the best ?

I just want to install all thats needed and nothing that is not needed. Its just going to be a HTPC and nothing else.

Thanks for any help. Just point me to a post as iam sure its been said before

Thanks.

Nvidia PureVideo for Mpeg2 and XviD for XviD/DivX should get you pretty far, though I'm not sure about the HD part. I think at least PureVideo can handle HD. You might also want to add VobSub for subtitles and Real/Quicktime alternative for RealMedia/QT files. If you plan to do any encoding you might want to install Lame for mp3 encoding and Elecard for XviD encoding in MP. As for HD, someone else has to fill you in.

Is there any specific reason your using an addon soundcard? Ive got that same motherboard and it already features Soundstorm (DDL encoder). Seems like a bit of a case of spending money where you could spend it elsewhere (or save it).

Also have a look at this filter http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=84797
You can get away without installing AC3Filter that way.

he may already had that - it is always better to use a PCI audio card, since on-board audio cards DO use board resources AND CPU power...

(and when some dev adds better menu handling, multiple calls to modules and plugins with different options and much better dbase handling, it will be love... ah and a nice 3D front end and inter-module messaging system and...)

Im not too specific with Soundstorm (apart from using that mboard) but even the HDA range of soundcards use only a partial hardware solution. There is still a very noticable drop is fps in games (still relavant to htpc uses though) when upscaling 5.1 to DD/DTS.

I used Soundstorm for alittle while when i got it but went to a SB Live now Audigy 2 Zs. Why no idea.

Anyway just heard the HDA cards blow away any card including the New Creative XFI sound cards. Well atleast music and sound wise. Thats the only reason i was wanting a HDA card.

Thanks for the Links man. Thats theone i saw with the steps to install all the patches

Any tips of what other codecs to install just the minium needed ?

I know i want a Divx/Xvid codec. But what else ?

Thanks all.

Very Helpfull as allways

Any idea if that install of software patches is still current or not. They have MP11 beta out now. Do you need to do that now ?

No, but it is pretty anyway and does have a lot of link's to spend money on. Whether MS has anything special on the codec side (which have not found\noticed), then upgrade not necessary.
