I'm having toruble playing a 720p mkv file that I know contains subtitles and other things. I can play this file with graphedit using the VMR9 renderer so I know it isn't an issue where the codec cannot play the file in vmr9.

Graphedit does give a popup error saying "This file contains streams that aren't supported", but the file seems to play OK. There is also a pop-up in the Haali mediasplitter that says something about the mkv containing true-type fonts. I'm thinking that there are several things in this .mkv container that is causing MP to freak out.

I'd like to test this some more, how does one strip things out of an .mkv container?

If this is truly a bug/MP issue (and it looks like it is), I'll get it into Mantis so that hopefully the devs can work on it.

Unfortunatley no. I brought it up on IRC chat and it was dismissed as an issue with the mkv or my configuration and that MP was not at fault.

I think this is wrong. I can play the file in graphedit, using VMR9 with no pop-up warnings or issues. I think that the media player within MP is at fault, but have not been able to convince anyone thus far.

i dont have any problems playing mkv or ogm files with dual sound and dual subtitles they just take a little longer to start playing and then i just switch the sound streams and subtitles uing the OSD.

i just had to make sure i had the codecs required to play them installed along with matroska spliter and lazy man's MKV 0.9.9(2005-11-25 for the mkv files and the ogg vorbis for the ogm files

I've got a 720p, h264, MKV file with only 2 streams and it plays fine, however the some keys on the remote are unresponsive (namely stop and pause).

WHen I get more info, I may make a test-team forum post.

As possible solutions - 1) use an external player, or 2) reconvert the mkv files to avi using VirtualDub, you may have to do something with the subtitles though.

There are now reports from multiple users that MKV files with multiple streams play fine with MP:

In addition to the one above, Spekkio reports that he can play a 720p, H264, .MKV file with multiple streams in MP with:

VSFilter 2.37
CoreAVC
Haali Media Splitter (Set Haali for VSFilter support)

That should fix any problem you have with MKVs, dual audios especially.
