Default MP doesn't recognize installed codecs

TV-Server Version:
MediaPortal Version: 2.3.0
MediaPortal Skin: blue two wide
Windows Version: XP Pro
CPU Type: P4 1.8
HDD: 250 Gig hitachi
Memory: 1 gig
Motherboard: Via P4XB
Motherboard Chipset: Via
Motherboard Bios:
Video Card: Geforce 4
Video Card Driver: latest
MPEG2 Video Codec: Currently have all sorts of codecs installed. Divx, xvid, 3vid, ffdshow, etc.
MPEG2 Audio Codec:

I just reformated my TVbox and downloaded the latest stable version of media portal and have run into some problems i didn't have before. When using the older version of media portal i just installed the codecs i needed to play the videos and without anything else it would use them to play the appropriate videos.

Now, no matter what i seem to do i can't get MP to open any of those exact same files. WMP can open them just fine and play them perfectly because i do have the right codecs installed.

When i tell MP to play a file it just kinda pauses for a second like it's going to try and load it. then it stops and doesn't do anything.

I couldn't find any fixes for this in anything. anyone got any ideas?? it worked flawlessly on the previous version i was using. i can't remember off the top of my head which version it was. And now i'm up until 2 in the morning trying to get it working. haha.

Thanks

Usually haali media splitter solve you problem, personally FFShow Tryouts should do most of what you want, without the others installed.

and none of these are specifically mpeg2 codecs like PowerDVD or Nvidia etc.

Well I also have powerDVD and all it's codecs installed. DVDs aren't working at all either, but i was mainly referring to saved Divx and Xvid files on my computer. The codecs are installed and working properly because i can play the same media files through WMP. It's like MP just doesn't know how to access the proper codecs. The weird thing is i never had any of these problems with any of the older versions of MP. It seems to be related to something they changed in this latest build.

Now the problem i'm having with the DVDs is i tell it to play the DVD (which plays fine in powerdvd) and it goes to a black screen. If i watch the light on the DVD drive it never blinks and the drive doesn't even spin up. Mediaportal doesn't even try to read the DVD.

I have tried using the built in, included mpeg2 decoders that come with MP and those don't work, i've tried each of the decoders that powerdvd installs, all with the same result.

Now i just tried to play some MP3s and M4as and it won't even play those. I have iTunes installed and it plays fine through that. There's just some serious issue going on. It won't open any media file at all, like it just can't read any of the codecs installed on the computer. MP just won't open anything.

I tried that codec fixer thing and it didn't show that there were any problems with the codecs, and since everything plays fine in other programs i really don't think it's a problem with the codecs. It's definitely something wrong with MP.

Any other suggestions? If there's any other info that would be helpful let me know.

Edit MediaPortal.xml
Search for useTsFileSourceForMpegs and set that to no
Try that, edit with notepad.
