MP to TV = 100% CPU = Slow as "poop"

Synopsis::

When I open MP in fullscreen mode on #1 display (Nokia 21" PC Monitor) at 1024x768, MP runs great with low CPU usage. MCE 2005 Remote works fine and all other features function well. When I move MP to second monitor (TV-Out to standard TV), My CPU usage goes to 100%+ and makes MP and PC totally unusable. I have set both monitors to same display size (from reading the forums) and have tried various display sizes and other changes to attempt to lower CPU usage while viewing thru TV, but cannot seem to affect a change to the 100% CPU. When in TV mode video slows to the point of "refreshing still frames".
Hopefully all required system info and MP logs were gathered and posted from the MediaPortal Support app.
Any help or ideas on what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if 100% sure on this but i think i remember reading somewhere that its a limitation or something of Directx, there is only 3D acceleration on the primary display, so one option would be to make the one that you want MP to be on as the primary and have the other one as the secondary. Not sure if there is any real way around it as its Directx thats the problem not MP from what i can tell

yep, NightmareRambo is right. MP renders its GUI like a 3D game with the usage of DirectX. DirectX acceleration is only supported on the primary display.

What you can try to do is setting your TV as primary and your monitor as secondary display. That may do the trick.

You were absolutely correct. Video acceleration is only available on the primary monitor. I changed TV to be primary and re-started everything. Works like a champ now. <10% CPU on normal display, 40-70% CPU on video and overlay and less than 40% CPU on full-screen TV. I love it.
Is it possible to get those numbers down even further? Maybe change some codecs or graph files?

Try the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder - with hardware acceleration enabled (DxVA) you should get the CPU% down to less than 15% on TV and DVD.

However, I am not sure if your ATI Radeon 9250 supports DxVA?

Hi!

I use this topic, because my problem is similar.

I recently made a htpc and using Media portal on it. The problem is, that when i watch tv it is only working in overlay mode and it is very slow! When i switch to vmr9 then nothing works!
Suggestions?
