Default No sound when playing MPEG file / only in MP

Hi all,

I have a very strange problem with MP (version 0.2.3):
When playing a specific file in MP, I get no sound. When I play the file on the very same machine in the windows media player, I get sound.
In Graphedit I can choose any combination of audio and video filters (MPA/V, ffdshow, Intervideo etc), there's always sound.
I tried different combinations of filters in MP Configuration, but I never got sound in MP.

The file is a SVCD standard MPEG2 with MP2 sound. I can play it (with sound!) on any of my pcs with any program, just not in MP.

Long ago I also had one or two recorded shows (DVB-T/ MPEG2) without sound, which I deleted instead of testing to play them with other programs or on other machines.

Perhaps MP has a seldom problem with MPEG2 files?

What more information is needed for support? I did not provide the general information because -as described above- the machine is able to play the file.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi

just out of interest if you connect to remote graph with the file running in MP, does it show any audio decoder!

What is the actual file extension.

The extension is .mpg

I don't know what it means to "connect to remote graph with the file running in MP". If you could tell me how to do that I will try that this evening.

If you have a video file running in windowed MP not fullscreen (alt\enter), then open graphedit and select connect to remote graph, you will be able to see the codecs graph that MP is using for that file.

I would also suggest trying filmerit to see if you have any problem filters (padlock button needs to be unlocked to repair).

May i also suggest trying Vista codec pack, has a good habit of repairing screwed up settings for codecs, you would need to uninstall FFDShow first before installing, as it will put a new version on.

Two things are strange:
- the used audio filter is always ffdshow, independent of the chosen filter in MP configuration
- when I save the remote filter and start playing in Graphedit, there's no sound; when I build the same graph manually, there is sound

I append the two graphs.

Hi your better off uploading screenshots of graphedit (winsnap great for this) and uploading as these grf files will not load into my graphedit.

Definately sounds like a codec issue though, did filmerit turn anything up.

Filmerit found some errors, after fixing them it's the same as before.

Did you reboot after fixing as these are registry errors, you would not see any difference without.

Going out now, but next i would try the codec pack i suggested, guaranteed not to break anything

I found out what's wrong:
The default filter for opening the file is "MP reader", merit 0x00400000
Mediaportal uses "TS File Source", merit 0x00200000

Using TS File Source in GraphEdit, there is no.

=> So how can I tell Mediaportal NOT to use TS File Source? Why is it used anyway? It has the lower merit, and I think a SVCD is no transport stream.

You could try selecting "Automatic decoder settings" MP config\movies\movieplayer.

That should use system merits for choosing preferred codec.
