Is this "automatic decoder settings" available in MP 0.2.3.0 ?
Because I can't find it. If it is not, I will wait until MP 1.0; then I will have new problems :-)

Thanks for your help!

I've just noticed this with happening on a recording I made last night.

I've tried adjusting the setting mentioned, but it hasn't made any difference. The mpg plays perfectly in VLC, but there's no sound at all in MP.

Have you tried a different audio codec, either mpa or ffdshow (which i prefer)

Yep, I tried both the ones I have installed (MPA and NVidia) before I posted.

Try running the file through GSPOT and see what decoders it uses to render the file.

Still prefer ffdshow for sound as it will take every sound format going, and i'm wondering if the sound in your file is mono, which a lot of filters don't like.

I've attached a screen dump of GSpot's output. I'm sure it means a lot more to you than me

One thing I'm curious about. If MediaPortal is supposed to be recording mpeg standard files, why would it need to use a non-standard codec to watch/listen to the resultant file?

So the sound is stereo, and MPA can play it.

Which version of MP do you use?
Do you have sound when you open it in Windows Media Player?
Could you try to "connect to remote graph" as described above, to see if the "TS File Source" is used by MP?

I'm just trying to find out if your problem is the same as mine. Perhaps that "TS File Source Filter" is buggy. And someone should be able to explain why MP uses it.

I'm pretty sure MP1.0RC1 should not have this problem, but your not using it

A setting i remember from 0.2.3.0 is in the mediaportal.xml (open with notepad) there is a setting use "TS File Source Filter" yes by default, try changing to no, see if that makes a difference.

I am using RC1 with the current SVN. There's no sound using WMP either. I'm just wonderering why it's only happening to the occasional recording. Most of the other things I've video'd are perfectly fine.

I'll have a play around with some of the suggestions this evening when I'm not on my 'very short' lunchbreak
