Playback stops on DVD

Synopsis::

After some discussion about DVD playback with Tech Geek in the hardware selection forum I have been playing around with my graphics drivers setup.

I was suffering stuttering in DVD playback. I've managed to stop that by installing the latest drivers and catalyst from the ATi site and using the ATi Mpeg Decoder as my DVD Codec. I'd have to say that the change in pic quality is excellent. Much clearer and more vibrant colours.

However, things have gone from bad to worse ref playback. The stuttering is gone but now playback stops completely. It doesn't freeze MP completely. It just shows as paused. I can start it again by hitting play but why!?!? This happens after about 2-3 mins of playback. If I change codec, I get the stuttering back.

Hardware Acceleration is enabled. I have used the Catalyst Wizard settings for Full Screen Video.

I always seem to cure one problem by replacing it with another! :cry:

Here is the log of what happens from when I choose to play the DVD onwards.

The line where it stops is

PowerDVD as an external player is a workaround but I really don't want to do that. I'm guessing you guys don't want me to either.

This is the only thing that's letting MP down for me. The rest of it rocks. Please help

:arrow: 6 mins playback. So far so good.

I have taken some things out of my startup.
- IMon
- PDVDServ
- WinCinema Manager
- Nero Check

Seems to have made a difference. The stuttering that I have been suffering from and talked through in another thread seems to be gone, or at least minimized to an extent that I haven't noticed yet.

I've lost my VFD but I can cope with that if the rest of the system is stable.

10 mins. Still going.

Express 200 graphics sound distinctly like a Laptop to me, I know was looking at some Mobile graphics that could play games for my 14 year old and is DX9 compatible.
Have you any experience using for games or is it "your toy" and only using as part time htpc.
Only asking SO I CAN GET ON MY PC.

My HTPC is used only for that purpose. It may sound like laptop but it's onboard graphics. Seriously considering a dedicated card though.

I'm not into games I'm afraid so can't comment there. Too much of an addictive personality. Kicked the habit when I nearly became single due to Championship Manager 2000 :lol:
