Default Remove ffdshow from "Activated Filters" list?

Hey,

I added ffdshow to my activated filters list in the TV Postprocessing configuration. How do I remove it? Simply unchecking the box does not actually seem to remove ffdshow from the processing loop. I've got the OSD activated and it still shows up on the video even though I've unchecked ffdshow from the activated filters.

And please could someone explain TV vs. Movie post processing. When I enabled the TV post processing, I thought it would only apply to my tuner card which is standard def. However, ffdshow also ran on the xvids that I launched from the "My Videos" menu item which is configured in the "Movies" section. Since I didn't have any post processing enabled there, why did ffshow do anything to those vids?

Ok, so I just found: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/Postprocessing

but what does it mean "if you use ffdshow as main codec you do not need to add it in the movies section. Because the settings will automatically be used when the codec is activated (eg. while playing ?XviDs)." I've selected MPV Decoder as my TV codec. How do you make ffdshow *not* your main codec so it won't process my tv and videos?

thanks

When playing xvid:s, Windows' internal merit system is used. Not MediaPortal's codec settings. My guess is that ffdshow was actually used for your xvid files even before adding it as Postprocessing. When playing a video file all filters that can handle the format (you might have both xvid and ffdshow installed) will be scanned and the filter with the highest merit will be used. You can lower ffdshow's merit in Start Menu/ffdshow/Video decoder configuration/DirectShow control/Merit.
If you want more control of each filters' merit you can use GraphStudio. It'll show you how video files are rendered and allow you to set a specific merit for filters.

"if you use ffdshow as main codec you do not need to add it in the movies section"
ffdshow is a video decoder and a postprocessing filter. If you're already using it as video decoder there's not much sense in adding it as postprocessing. However you might want to use xvid as video decoder but still use ffdshow to display subtitles, change gamma, denoise or any other ffdshow setting. Then you should add ffdshow as postprocessor and leave xvid as video decoder.

Default Is ffdshow set up for all RAW types?

Have you enabled FFDSHOW for all RAW types? Check your ffdshow codec configuration (last entry).

If it is enabled, ffdshow will be enabled as filter for everything you will playback (it will be between the decoder and renderer). As far as I remember, the postprocessing setting in Mediaportal has no effect in this case. I had the same problem after playing around with the settings in MP and ffdshow.

Currently in MP I have ffdshow set to decode everything in Movies section. It is not set as postprocessing filter. I have profiles for default (resize, subtitles) and xvid (postprocessing, resize, subtitles) videos.

In TV and DVD section I have AVIVO to decode MPEG2 and no postprocessing. Then I configured ffdshow to support all RAW types and it gets loaded between AVIVO and VMR9. There is an ffdshow profile for DVB/DVD (postprocessing and set interlaced flag to output).

All profiles are autoloaded based on various properties of the video stream (size, data type, codec, FOURCC).

Vuego and Crabstick,

Thanks for the replies. In fact, since I am using one of the codec packs (did not know any better at the time), the ffdshow was set for everything. I also used graphedit to verify what was going on, so thanks for that suggestion. I got it working the way it should....
