Hi Hoborg- do you think you could put a note on your first post that it would be wise to uninstall PowerDVD before installing SAF?
Done!

is it? for what reason?

Becouse PowerDVD is uselless if you are using SAF.

@hoborg:
your filter wasnt working initially, to get it working I had to register a few filters (extracted from the plugin folder from powerdvd) manually.

regards, thx for your work

What filters? On what OS? I tryed it on XP SP3/ Vista32 SP1 - no problem here. Can you post more info?

FYI, i run a dual boot system:

win xp (vmr9 + dxva with cyberlink codes; Catalyst 8.5) - seems to work fine (even thus cant get evr to work - no picture and sound at all for every media except mp3 - but I installed Framework 3 and 3.5) and...

vista (evr tried cyberlink as well as the stand alone package; Catalyst 8.9) evr does work but no dxva at all, could that somehow linked to the previous installation of powerdvd8????

Are you sure you are using the MPC-HC decoder to get hardware acceleration (DXVA) on HD files? On mine even if I selected MPC-HC decoder in MediaPortal config it defaulted to Cyberlink h.264.

Hello all SAF users.
I finaly found a way how to make working PowerDVD 7 navigator as "standalone" and replace bugy microsoft DVD navigator.
I can say it is now working perfectly for all DVDs i have!

So, the new SAF version will be relased soon...

Very nice pack for MP! hoborg
To be the ultimate pack it just needs someone to find out how to have subtitles and DXVA in MP.

I'm unable to use MONOGRAM GraphStudio. I try to Connect to Remote Graph I select the entry and nothing happeans.
What are the system req for this tool to work?
I'm using Vista SP1.

Thanks.

After a lot of reading over the past week I unhappy to report that I am more confused than ever and am questioning everything I thought I knew. I built my system based on the 780g chipset for hard acceleration and the AMD 4850e for low power consumption believing that I had the best combination for the least cost..... maybe not the case.

I have a problem with a few 1920x1080 MKV files where the image starts to break up after a minute or so of viewing and eventually results in either a complete freeze or my HTPC simple powers off if I don't stop the player in time. I tried SAF last night with the Catalyst 8.5, but the results were the same. So after trying PowerDVD, CoreAVC, ffshow and SAF I decided to try the one thing I should have tried before everything else.... I tried playing the same video using VLC on my main PC. Low and behold, the video does not play properly there as well. CPU was about 70%.

I'm now left wondering if the MKV files are just poorly encoded. Can anyone explain to me how I can determine if the MKV files are good? Is there a utility to test the file quality versus the codec?

@hoborg, you said to use Catalyst 8.5 as versions 8.6 - 8.9 have issues with XP. Have you been able to confirm whether the new Catalyst 8.10 is usable?

Thx,
Kevin

Hello. Acordings what i read here, it seems to be a hardware isue on your PC. Can you post example of your video file? Lets say 2minutes video? You can split your video files using MKV merge.

I have only HD TV (not full HD), so i dont have any FullHD videos.

About Catalyst - Yesterday i did some more testing about problems i have in new catalyst versions, and it seems to be some kind of MediaPortal + WinXP + new catalyst issue (catalyst 8.10 too). Becouse the problems (glitches, freezes) only apear in MP in fullscreen. In window mode all is OK (same in MPC-HC - no problem here). I will create report abou that soon. Only problematic videos are from my HD camcorder... But in catalyst 8.5 all working perfectly.

Here is a link to a small sample. It was too large to upload here even though it is only 42 seconds.

I can't get MPC-HC filter to work on MP, but on the MPC-HC player it works OK using hardware acceleration (DXVA) but the movement seems a little jerky as if a low frame rate was being displayed? Maybe it was not encoded quite correctly?

Hoborg, I have also tested 8.10 and DXVA does not work properly for me using Cyberlink codecs- 8 will not accelerate progressive (1080p) only 1080i interlaced, 7.3 will accelerate both of these but neither accelerate VC-1. MPC-HC accelerates 1080i/p, and VC1 but some interlaced files are not displayed correctly.

Thanks for trying it. I'm left at an impass now because I cannot play the file from any of my PCs including my HTPC which should support HA. I'm actually in the process of rebuilding the HTPC with MP1 RC3, but that is not going well as I am experiencing all sorts of problems just trying to get it installed.

Hopefully once I accomplish a fresh install of MP and MPC-HC filter, my unplayable files will start working.
