Default Set Aspect Ratio Per Channel - HDTV streams Australia

Hi,

I have been watching Mediportal HDTV channels in Australia (Melbourne) for the past 2 weeks on my new Plasma screen.

Channel 9 comes in perfectly at the original source format (16:9).
Channel 10, ABC also perfect

Channel 7 comes in about 10 centimetres short on each side and at the top - If I change aspect ratio to normal it pushes the picture out to the edges (but I think it is called over scanning).

Is there problems with 7 and SD broadcasts?
Can I set the aspect ratio per channel? or have I got an incorrect setup?

Sounds like you have an incorrect setup - have you tried the "S" key to change the aspect ratio? I have mine set to "Normal" and it works fine for all SD and HD channels.

Also, have you tried different Video Decoders? I recommend the nVIDIA decoder for SD and the Zulu DxVA one for HD.

I have been using the Zulu DxVA one for HD

What size screen are you watching this on??
I have a 106cm Pioneer HD plasma.

Resolution set at about 1224x688 (not at home to check exactly).

Resolution for me is 1280x720. 1224x688 seems like an odd resolution.. :?

Geez!! i dont think my wall would fit that!!

So, do you get the aspect ratio changing when you leave it on original when you flick between channels?? or do you stay on Normal?

I have really noticed the tennis when going from original to normal, original looks a lot better(but smaller)

I had a play with powerstrip and this seems the best (also looked around the BDA forums)

What happens if you use the stretch aspect ratio for all channels, I would think that it would not stretch 9, 10 and 2 but then stretch 7 to fill the sceen.

Wish I had a plasma

I keep it on Normal. But I just tested it on "Original" and although it doesn't change between channels, the image is smaller - which I guess is because it is displaying a 16:9 PAL image (which is 1024x576) on a 1280x720 display. I find Normal is the best option and I don't loose any image on the edges (no "overscan").

I have tried with zoom, normal, original etc yesterday

The cricket (channel 9 HD)is much more enjoyable to watch than the tennis (channel 7) - (in a viewing/screen res way).

I'm just going to have to live with this for the time being.

Next thing I might play with is the codecs and interlacing ( although I keep changing them every couple of days!)

Nvidia looks the next option.

Off to find them.

i'm guessing as i have a shithouse rptv which isn't HD but i would suggest you find what is the resolution of your tv, which is probably 1024x768, i reckon try setting your desktop to that and run Media portal and then try hitting S until you get the tv to look normal on your TV, i reckon its the resolution doing crazy things. might have to just hit s until you get like Zoom or something to get it to look right then you will be set

Just following up on this

The Pioneer tv's have different modes for widescreen viewing
Pioneer Full, Zoom, Conventional 4:3

After playing around with the TV's settings and the resolution of my PC all looks good

Thanks for the replies!
