Default Strange audio codec behaviour

Area: Plugins
MP Version: 0.2 RC4 latest svn
Skin: Nonafo
Windows Version: XP SP2
CPU Type: Celeron 2ghz
Memory: 2 x 256 MB
Motherboard Chipset: Intel 865
Video Card: Intel 865
Video Card Driver: Latest
Video Card Resolution: 800 x 600
Video Render Type: VMR9
Video Codec Type & Version: MPV
Audio Codec Type & Version: MPA

Synopsis:

Well, this is. I configured windows media player as audio player in my music section. I had no problem until I had to play a .m4a audio file. In mediaportal when I try to play this kind of file (I've got the right codec) the player does not start. I tried to play it with wmp and i get an error about wmp not being able to play this file. After the error windows, if I press the play button wmp start playing flawless (so the error comes only from the unknow extension, I think). But whis error windows could be the matter of mp mymusic.

To solve it, I selected directshow instead of windows media player in configuration. Now the m4a file starts play with no problem (and also aac files. But with some mp3 when I press play mp just do nothing. For example I get this error with Madonna-hung up.mp3, that is a mp3 320kbps, but no error with prince - when doves cry.mp3, that is a mp3 192 kbps. WMP can play both. The stranger is that if a run graphedit on the second (prince), I get the right graph (mpa decoder), but with the first (madonna) I don't get a graph at all.

So I have 2 option. No to m4a files or no to some mp3s.

Clues? Suggestions?

Replace your codec with a late ffdshow version: http://ffdshow.drition.net/?lang=en

This should solve your problem and you should be able to play it all using WMP as player.
