I have
Twinhan dvb-t PAL on a server.

The client (E6400) has nvidia 7800GT run at 720p.
I tried PV, as I always have used, and tv stutters, also sound is out of sync.
Changed from Reclock to Direct show device as renderer, it helped a little.
Changed resolution fq to 50Hz, did not change a thing I think.
Changed to DScaler and No weave, that was the only codec combo that cured my issues!

Have not looked at CPU%, but I guess PV would help. Question is, what generates the less heat: CPU or HW?

You mean CPU vs GPU?
I believe that the extra heat generated by GPU due to DXVA is (in general) far less then what CPU would use - that is kind of the whole idea ...

Possibly a little OT but I don't think the 8400gs actually supports hardware purevideo. I have read a few other posts here that suggest the 8400gs *does* support purevideo and would like to get it cleared up in my head. When I bought an XFX PCI-e 8400gs I queried XFX-support on the topic I was referred to:

which does not list the 8400gs as having *any* purevideo compatibility. Strangely, XFX support wouldn't issue a direct answer to my questions (ie: yes or no) and would only state that if it wasn't listed in that PDF then it didn't have hardware purevideo.

Does anyone have definitive information to finally clear this up for me?

I have been struggling with stuttering video using Pure video codec (Hardware acceleration enabled) for some time.
I reverted back to the MPV codec which was OK but blurred when watching sport. After a huge amount of hours I came across the following links.

In desperation I tried updating the directshow dll.
I now have perfect Hardware acceleration enabled video via my 8500 GT. This connects through component output to my 50 inch TV. Very nice...
I have also noticed a lot of annoying crashes have disappeared and MP is generally a lot more reliable.

I'm so happy I came across this post... been scratching my head over this one for about a month.

Tried all codecs but having no joy and PV codec gave me best results but still had stuttering, I tried literally everything here... graphedit, codecs, tv freq, all drivers and the app that shows u latency all to no joy..

Thanks to the poster who pointed out Exclusive mode.. this solved it for me and I couldnt be happier (well maybe if you supported .rar files )

Sentinel,

The solution for me has been to:
1). Copy the DirectX9b dll into the hidden directory windows\system32\dllcache.
2). Copy the same dll into the windows\system32 directory.
3). Disable windows update service.

If the windows update service is running it will replace the file with the DirectX9C version as a "Critical update".
I gave up looking for a way to specifically disable that update. The easist solution was to disable the whole service.
To see the hidden directory you will need to temporarily disable the explorer option "Hide protected operating system files (Recomended)"

I have windows update set to notify, this way you can select what you want to update.

Right click on any update you do not want, allows you to hide it so it should not appear again.
