Default WMV and FFDSHOW audio filter

MediaPortal Version: 0.2.0.4
MPEG2 Video Codec: NVIDIA Video Decoder
MPEG2 Audio Codec: ffdshow Audio Decoder

I'm trying to force MP to play the audio of WMV files using FFDSHOW filter with no success. Outside MP, it works perfectly (graphedit also shows it), but inside MP, FFDSHOW is never used for the audio. Playing other media files in MP like AVI will make use of FFDSHOW for the aduio.

EDIT: Found out that it happens only if the audio stream within the WMV file is 6 channels PCM (uncompressed).

Any idea?

Thanks,
granx

If no one has a solution, at least can anyone guide me how I can troubleshoot the rendering graph that MP is building?

I looked in the log file, but couldn't find any clue as to what codecs MP used for the WMV playback.

To display the graph, see this post: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/76459-post.html

Try using ffshow for decoding uncompressed audio, can be changed in the audio codecs settings.

It is set like this of course. Don't forget that outside MP it works OK (FFDSHOW is used for audio)

Thanks mPod for the tip, it worked. Now for the problem.

Outside MP, I get the following graph (the good graph):
"WMAudio Decoder DMO" connected to "ffdshow Audio Decoder" which is connected to "Default Direct Sound Device"

Inside MP, I get: "WMAudio Decoder DMO" connected to "Default Direct Sound Device" and "ffdshow Audio Decoder" just seats there unattached, not connected.

Any idea why its like that?

Hi,

the mantis bug is not a (real) MP issue:
Can't get ffdshow to work in TV

Flip.

Not sure these are related to my problem. After all, if I play a 2 channel audio WMV file, ffdshow will connect correctly. It happens only with 6 channels WMV files. Also, for all other file types (AVI, MPEG) ffdshow will also connect correctly.

What I don't understand is why the graph built by MP different from the graph other players (like media player classic etc.) build.

Can I force a specific graph?

Hi,

no sorry, there is no way to force a graph. As you said, its strange, that the ffdshow filter is loaded by MP but not connected properly.

Can you please try following:
- Save the graph of MP
- Exit MP
- Load the Graph in Graphedit
- Try to link the ffdshow filter in between

Also look into ffdshow audio decoder configuration, if all formats are set to use ffdshow.
