Well, you knew about that... Never understood why you bought that 4850e...

i'm cursed with impatientness But nonetheless next upgrade will be when my girlfriend's PC gets a makeover. The 4850e will be sufficient for her needs and I hope by then i can figure out what's the better choice x3e or x4e for the HTPC. In the meantime i'm busy with the new server i configured and i'm doing some home improvement by creating a special server/router corner in our storage closet at home

armandp! You are DVR god! I some how by fate picked a very similar build to your HTPC. I have a few questions in my thread if you want to check them out:

Hello, I am new to the DVR scene and need some recommendations.

I really don't like to hijack threads and such but you seem like the perfect guy to help me. Thanks for this awsome guide anyways.

I updated my FP to reflect my recent hardware changes. Also after reading the GA...S2H topic on AVS forum it became clear to me that a Phenom WILL solve my hardware deinterlacing issue for 1080i HD channels so the 4850e will probably get replaced on the next home upgrade run (if budget allows as always).
In other news: my WHS server is ready and configured for the most part, i already have TVServer running on it without any issues so officialy have a "multiseat" setup now

edit: after reading that article i also like the idea of just buying a Phenom x4 9550 and undervolting it to act like a 9350e. The CPU's are the same price (with the 9550 on some shops being even cheaper). Undervolting would make it use ~1% more energy than the 9350e while clocking @ 2.2ghz..... choices... choices... choices...

Back to the neverending ATI deinterlacing show!

I installed the Catalyst 8.7 beta drivers and switched deinterlacing back to Auto in CCC. Also i switched Aero back on because i was experiencing tearing in soms videos i got. Hardware Acceleration is working again and the only thing i sacrificed is that when watching SD channels with lot's of static logo's on it those logo's are slightly "jumpy" (this is an effect of the BOB deinterlacing,). The stuff i gained is that all the 1080i broadcasts now look perfect again and i don't have tearing in my local video's.

Hi,

I bought the same hardware (Antec Fusion 430, Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, AMD 4850e, 2GB RAM) and built my HTPC, running Vista Ultimate 32bit.

After 2 days, I don't know why, I got only a green screen running DVDs/Blu-Rays with PowerDVD 8 (everything was fine before).
If i turn off hardware acceleration i can see DVDs without a problem, but still no luck with Blu-Ray cause I can't turn off hardware acceleration then.

I thought it could be something about playing to much with codecs before, so i decided to make a fresh install.
New Vista install, newest drivers, PowerDVD 8 -> green screen

Anyone who can help me, please?

TIA
Para

Try Catalyst 8.4 or 8.7 (beta) drivers. I read some people got similar problems when using 8.5-6.

thanks, I'll give it a try this evening.

Just the display driver, or do i have to install the matching CCC and southbridge drivers, too?

Hey armandp,

I just ordered almost the same components as you did. Thank you for sharing your HTPC experience with the rest of the world, and I think you're, and other people's post will help me build a superb media center. BTW, I'm going for the Phenom 9550 undervolting, I hope this will work stable. Unfortunately the Floppy DVB-S2 will arrive on 29th of July so I’ll have to wait a long time, I'm an impatient person to.

My compontents:

AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core 9550 2.20 GHz, 3600 MHz, 2 MB
Antec Fusion Zwart, 430 Watt
GigaByte GA-MA78GM-S2H
Microsoft Remote Control+Receiver Windows Media Center
Samsung SH-S223F S-ATA, Bulk, Zwart
Asus Radeon HD 3450 512 MB, PCI-e 16x (for analoge tv-out, for now)
Digital Everywhere DVB-S2 Light
Trust Toetsenbord Wireless Media Center KB-2950 Draadloos, Zwart, Qwerty
Kingston ValueRam Dual Channel 2048 MB, PC6400, 800 MHz, 5, Kit Of 2
WD Caviar GP 500 GB, 7200 Rpm, 16 MB, S-ATA II/300
Aston SECA DUAL 1.07 nieuwste versie 2.18 CI module, landcode VRIJ

Cool - i'm very interested in the 9550 undervolting experience and temperatures. If I should go that route i don't want to add a fan to my mini ninja (and i want to keep the case fans on 'low').
