Very good thread, giving me lots of ideas for the future. Although its just plans in my head for now. Interesting to read about HDTV and DXVA. Good to know you got the Imon working on the antec case and with a logitech harmony it looks very very smart! Good luck with solving your few remaining issues

Hi, thank you armandp for all your infos. I just read about DXVA, and i have a few question.
DXVA seems only to work under vista which is quite annoying but so be it. My first question is that you said that every post processing disable DXVA, does that mean that i cant use ffdshow with DXVA?
If not could you create a tutorial on how to make it work correctly?
That would help a lot of people going for a configuraiton like yours.

Your thread is a gold mine !! Thanks

@ Carmenm : I think this is the answer. To use DXVA you need the right codec, at the current time the codec that is included with Cyberlink PDVD7 is the only one which properly decodes Blue Ray using hardware so you have to use the codec that is included with that program.

Atleast thats what I get from what I have read

Yeah that s what i have to do for blue ray decoding. But what with x264 encoded mkv files for example? Will decoding with ffdshow be sufficient? (with the exact same config as the one of amandp)

That's correct.. if you mean using ffdshow as h264/avc decoder that will also not work because it doesn't utilize DXVA. No post processing also means no acceleration if you want to use subtitles maybe this will be changed in the future.

The codecs that utilize DXVA, to my knowledge, are:

- ATI Avivo codec
- Cyberlink AVC/H264 PDVD7/8
- MPC video codec (in MPC strangely enough DXVA works WITH subtitles - wonder how)

If your CPU isn't fast enough with DXVA disabled it's better to use CoreAVC as decoder as it will perform much better than any software decoder i've tried (also using the dual core).

Hi, nice build, I'm building virtually the same HTPC as yourself but with a Intel Core 2 Duo instead of an Athlon. Would you be able to give me some advice on how you set up your remote as I've ordered one (how I found your thread) with profiling as a MCE remote and then configuring for MP. Just a quick run down if you could as I can see from your original post the drivers I will need.
Many thanks if you can.
Cheers, Jon.

Hi armandp,

Inspired by your project I am about to build an almost identical system. I will try to use all information you have posted here and which I appreciate a lot.

I would just like to point out something I just found out. The NC-U6 you intend to use for cooling the northbridge is apparently not compatible with the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. See Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"!

Yeah i figured that also.. no real problems with the "overheated" northbridge as the system runs fine and stable.
But i will look for an alternative cooler just in case.

Hi!

The poweron by remote feature you are talking about, does this include powerup from Shutdown, or is it just Standby?

I already have the poweron from Standby, but not from Shutdown/hibernation and I wonder if this will fix it.

armandp,

have you managed to set up the commands to work on your remote. Can you get it to turn on all your devices in one go?

Plus which profile did you use for your remote, Media Centre PC, MediaPortal, MediaPortal? Or is there a MCE profile in the logitech software?

Thanks, Jon.
