I bailed on Beyond TV when they wanted more $$$ to upgrade
to 4.0 that added very little additional functionality. I have been
very happy with MP for the past two months - there is an amazing
amount of functionality available; but I digress....

I have my HTPC box in the basement per the first attachment and have it piped through my house's local cable system via cable modulator. A notch filter on the incoming cable feed clears a channel that I can publish to and keeps my signal from messing with my neighbors cable channels. I use the Snapstream Firefly RF remote, which I already had. The receiver for the remote run about 30ft via powered USB extension, up my laundry chute and out a wall on the main floor so I can use the remote at any tv in the house.

What I like most about this set-up is my media server is on every tv in the house and all the clutter, heat and noise is in the basement. It was pretty much a requirement put forth by my wifey... It also keeps the wires and buttons away from the kids.

I love the concept, you could have a HTPC without a "set top box".
