mapping programs to channel numbers

Is it possible to map a program to a particular channel number so it matches with the printed tv guide you get in shops

ie 41 Thomas Cook, 70 CBBC is how listed on normal guides and on STB's, but under mp these would be listed as 41 Thomas Cook, 42 CBBC

Does anyone know how to do this, I know how to re-arrange them but not re-assign a dedicated channel number

Yes - I find this doubling frustrating because when you look at the channel groups in the server configuration, it looks like there is variable for this but there doesn't seem to be any way to change them.

I don't know whether this is unique to UK users though.

This is something that MCE does faultlessly - I can't see why it's such big deal to allow the channel numbers to be defined separately.

In the configuration, you can change the name of the channel, then sort by that field.

That is to say, go to Television --> TV Channels--> TV Channels then double click (or single click and hit edit) the channel you want to change. Edit the "Name" field and leave the "Channel" field alone, then hit OK.

Back on the main TV Channel listing page, click the "TV Channels" column header to sort by those numbers. The channel should move to whereever it needs to go in the lineup and it should retain the proper channel programming, since the actual frequency was not changed (an option under the Analog tab during edit).

Thanks for your reply but it is not that simple in the UK.

Our freeview (DVB-T) contains about 52 TV Channels but when we look in newspapers of weekly TV guides, they use numbers 1-99 so there are channel numbers in the overall range that don't exist.

Ordering the channel lineup in MP is quite straightforward, but as soon as there is a gap in the channel numbers, it is impossible to relate the MP channel numbers to the standard UK listings.

Eg. as Walkerx has mentioned below, typing channel 70 on the remote should bring up CBBC and 80 should be BBC News 24, but there are only 52 (*) channels available. Pressing the 'next channel' button when viewing channel 72 should take you to the next available one (channel 80 - BBC News).

All DVB-T set top boxes, proprietary PVRs, and even Microsoft Media Centre work this way in the UK

* this number varies a bit according to where you are in the country and how good your reception is.

Thats fine if using analog but under digital you can change the channel numbers via MP

under mytheatre, showshifter, mce, gbpvr the channels numbers correspond to what they are via the digital signal.

There are many gaps between our freeview channels, and the way they are setup, is in such a way that channels are grouped together, with space for extra channels when they become available
