i realy wonder what "technology preview" means for you ppl.

You are right Infinity. Its just "MediaPortal 2" stirs up great anticipation and in most cases V2 is way better than V1. Obviously, I'm in way too early to "see" these improvements ;0)

It does beg the question though: If there is nothing for the end-user to "see", then just release within the dev community, not splash it all over the homepage.

I would also be worried that if there are news articles appearing, its not the best thing to report on. I haven't read the news article link yet, but its not flagship material.

I just felt that based on the MP2 release, some of the ideas were going in the wrong direction IMHO. Granted, perhaps a lot of these could be classed as "skin issues".

BTW: MP1 is OUTSTANDING and I love it.

Hope your not taking all of us as not appreciating this chance to 'preview' verison 2. I, like I'm sure many others love 'tinkering' with cutting edge, svn, beta etc software! Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing how this develops over the coming months!

Thanks

because when you read the forums then you would see that _many_ ppl here are inetersted in getting a look at it. even if its is work-in-progress.

so there is absolutely nothing wrong with providing a build for those interested ppl. to play around with it.
and you seem to be part of this ppl.

MP2 allows some cool stuff and contains the first implementation versions of the essential features.
this is allready visible to the end-user.

but everyone should be able to understand that nothing in it is final.
there is a long way to.... uh.... final ;-)

It didn't promise anything.. Its merely a preview of the capabilities of MP2, the GUI and everything was just quickly put together for people too see. What I saw was an app that in the future can and will by far surpass any HTPC app out there. It was far from perfect, but its important to not view this as the final mp2, because it is just a preview.

I don't understand people that actually sound mad when they post complaints about mp2 already :-/

I really dont understand all these replies
We where hoping for feedback , but now all we get is things like
- 'i installed mp-ii but uninstalled it after 3 minutes??'
- "MediaPortal 2" stirs up great anticipation and in most cases V2 is way better than V1
- Perhaps it should not be so prominent on the webpage, I was hoping for much much more than it delivered.

We clearly stated that mp-ii in its current stage is alpha , not feature complete and only released
to get the community involved with the design process

If all we get is remarks like the ones above of ppl who judge MP-II as if it should have been a complete
finished application then i will think twice next time before giving the community a chance to
help out and see /play with the new stuff

Hi Darre, of course you are right. Its just as an end-user I was very disappointed. I'm not mad as such, just disappointed. I'm sure you could say I should "not be anything" as its a preview.

I was just making a point that if all the good stuff is hidden to most users, then just release within dev community.

I could not "see" anything in the app, as all I saw was a clumsy GUI which crashes. I'm just being honest and not saying how great something is if I don't see it.

Anyway, I realise this is not construtive at all. So I'll wait patiently for a skinner to get hold of it ;0)

Please don't misunderstand, I feel a lot for mediaportal, I love it, honest. Even if my posts seem to indicate otherwise. Its only because I care about it that I get a bit passionate at times. Even though I haven't helped in any programming, whenever I use MP1 I feel proud of it. Thats strange I know!

As before please keep it open and bear in mind how many people have already donwloaded and those who have actually said they didn't think it was worthy of release! I'd hate to see it released just amongst a 'select' few (unless I'm on of them of course lol ) As before keep up the good work and looking forward to the next pre release version!

Thanks

No need to think twice next time as i guess most of the ppl just love to have that version.
Just downloaded it and will try it later.
All the positive feedback will come probably later when the "not moaning ppl" are finished playin around with it.
Just from the screenshots i am very happy to see the VMCE look a like skin wich i like a lot.
Specialy because it tells me that there will come a lot of other nice skins to play with later.

Noted that a screen refrash rate plugin will most likely be part of the core which is as fas as i know
a feature no other apps provides and is a lot appreciated.

THX for the release, cant wait to have a look at it. Hopin for more to see whenever its done.

One more thing
If anyone sees a crash (sleepycoll??)
then it would help to explain what you did to get it to crash
and perhaps attach the log file
