This problem is very simple, but also very serious. When you choose to record a program after its started the recording will start from the live point even if the entire program shown so far is contained in the timeshift buffer.

This affects to very common uses of MP in my home:

1. I start watching a move with timeshift on, and a few minutes into it decide that its good enough that i want to record all of it. Unfortunately this is not possible, any recording i make will start from the live point.

2. I personally use a 180 minutes timeshift buffer, and sometimes watch a movie timeshifted by 30+ minutes in order to skip commercials easily. Sometimes i start watching a movie late at night, and in the middle of it decide i want to watch the rest tomorrow. This is a problem since any recording will start from the live point and discard the part of the program that is between the current location in the ts buffer and the live point.

I previously posted a bug report with an example of 2., it can be found here and is still applicable:
Record in Timeshift doesnt record part of program in buffer

Im pretty sure this used to work pre-0.2 final at least, and its extremely annoying. Ive started recording nearly all movies i start watching to prevent this issue, but its significantly more hassle.

If i remember incorrectly and this feature has never been present, please reply and tell me so, so i can move to the feature request forum instead

MediaPortal Version: SVN 10104 (1 september)
(rest as described above).

The log files are attached, and is also at:
http://s7.quicksharing.com/v/4383132/ziphnor.zip.html

The main log file i put at pastebin for convinience:
http://mp.pastebin.com/781180
Description of logs:

1. Starts MP
2. Turn on TV on BBC World ('Filmagasinet' or 'Talking Movies' in english)
3. Turn on Timeshifting
4. Pause TV
5. Wait a few minutes, then play again to see what the start SHOULD look like
6. Pause again.
7. Choose record -> Record Current program(live program is still the same)
8. Click the program in the TV guide and choose 'Play from beginning', the playback doesnt start from the scene in the TS buffer but from the live point, that is the recorder hasnt recorded the TS buffer content.
9. Verify this by choosing Play from live point(to check that the recording did indeed start at the live point).
10. Stop record
11. Shut of TV
12. Exit MP.

In addition to the problem im having there is a conceptual problem with the 'Record Current program' option. Will it record what im currently watching in the TS buffer or will it record the program that is current from the live TV point of view?

ziphor,

did you even started your file from the Recorded TV section or from myVideos?
Please, try and see if your timeshifted material has been recorded, too?

Regards
Ralph

I just checked that, the timeshifted material was *NOT* part of the recording when playing back from "Recorded TV", and its the same when playing from My Videos.

There is no doubt about this, it has happened multiple times for me, across different installations of MP 0.2.

This is strange, as the record current while in TimeShift works well for me. I can be anywhere in the program and just press record, select current and away it goes.

I do agree with you about the problem with timeshifting when the current program has finished and the next one starts. I'm not sure if it would be possible to take that into account though. You'd assume there would be a third option that is "Record currently watching program" or something, but MP would have to work out the times to determine which show is being viewed.

Would be nice to have though.

It is strange that it works for you. I re-tested and i consistently get the same behavior, all recordings occur as if the timeshift buffer simply does not exist.
