I use Remote Utilities instead of RDP. This doesn't 'log in' as such, just presents a remote screen (similar to VNC). Also you don't need a version of W7 that has the RDP server (home versions of W7 do not, and AFAIK can't be made to do so). This works fine for me.

My TV is a 60" samsung and the default windows 7 text size (small) makes it difficult to see stuff. I use the medium text size but many of the mp config screens are not shown correctly when using this in terms of layout and text (see attached). Anyone else notice this?

Are you asking if Mediaportal can be on Roku, if so, I don't think you will ever see it. MP is based on Windows. You would have a better chance of seeing Mythetv or boxee or some other "linux" based software. If I’m not mistaken the Roku box is linux based.
