Best and easiest way (not cheapest) is to buy the MCE remote - or a Hauppauge MCE card w/remote bundle. Reciever will work with Harmony.

The CyberLink remotes are cheap enough. I got mine for £6 from www.ebuyer.com. You can use that reciever for your Harmony.

Glad i've found this old topic. I have a Harmony 525 and it all pretty much works, except for the fact that when i press the 'Watch My TV' the harmony instructs the HTPC to start windows media center. I want it to start MP and select the tv. What am i overlooking, can i reconfigure these inputs any way?

I'm wondering about harmony remotes as well. What I want is to be able to press one button that not only turns on the television set, but also cranks up MediaPortal's TV full-screen. Does anyone have any experience in trying to set up macros like this using a Harmony remote?

I don't know about experienced... but my Harmony 670 is working beautifully. I went with the Harmony so I wouldn't have to diddle with setting up the MCE blasters. It's pretty easy to follow the directions in the Harmony software. It hooks up to an internet database of devices supported... you put in the make and model of the device... you set up multiple devices for any of the 4 buttons across the top. Media Portal is supported already as a Home Theater device.

My "Watch Movies" button turns on my VCR, turns on my TV (if it hasn't been turned on already by one of the other buttons) changes the channel to the antenna input/channel 3, and turns on my Audio system (if it hasn't been turned on by some other button) and sets the audio input to VCR...

My "Watch TV" button turns on the TV to the S-Video input, Audio system is set to Digital Optical input and puts Media Portal into full screen LiveTV (full screen live tv is set using MP config).

My "Listen to Music" button turns on the TV to the S-Video input (if it isn't already there), Audio is set to Digital Optical (if not already) and puts Media Portal into My Music (ready to play music)

My "start" button (displayed on the LCD) starts Media Portal if it isn't already running (with MPTRAYMOD from /Plugins/Input)

I figure if I can do it... anybody can.

Good luck,

Chuck

Thought I'd mention that I already had the MCE remote package, so I just used the MCE remote's transceiver with the Harmony.

Hi all,

I've just built a pc and installed Media Portal and it's running great. I bought one of these (for the USB IR Receiver) and it sort of works using the remote delivered with it, but I don't want to use that. I'd sooner use the Harmony 885 I have.

From reading this thread (and others), all I should have to do is add Media Center (Either Media Portal or MCE) to the Harmony Remote and then enable MCE in the remotes section of MediaPortal config shouldn't I?

Well.. I tried that.. went in to the MP config, enabled the Media Center remote. Added the MCE and the MP devices to the Harmony remote, but nothing... no response from it whatsoever.

Has anyone else tried out the IR i bought from dealxtreme? should I just buy the cyberlink one from ebuyer as posted above? If I buy the ebuyer one, should the steps above that I described be all that I have to do?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

EDIT: Sorry! I forgot to say that I am using XP Pro (non MCE).

The IR receiver (from the description and the comments below on that link) doesn't look like it is MCE remote compatible to me... it interprets standard keyboard commands. There is mention of a plugin to be able to reprogram the keys for MediaPortal in one of the bottom comments.

I use my Harmony (different model) quite successfully with the MCE Remote receiver.

Sorry I couldn't help straighten this out for ya.

Hiya,

Thanks for the reply. I had wondered after I bought it, if it was a wrong move.
Can anyone else confirm that the cyberlink remove/IR Receiver will support the Harmony remote as RXP suggested earlier?
Otherwise, has anyone got any decent suppliers for the correct remote/IR receiver combo?

Thanks again
