Country: | I am considering getting a Mac Mini for a second htpc, and running XP/Media Portal instead of OS X. Does anyone know if the Mini remote control works under XP? I'd love to use the supplied remote instead of buying anew one if possible. |

Country: | Apple IR remote control support for MediaPortal will come the next days anyway (already in the works). Only downside will be, it's for Vista only. That's because the one available driver for Windows is available for Vista only. (Driver & 1-click-installation will come with MP). But who cares, my MacBookPro runs better with Vista than with XP anyway. ![]()

Country: | Today Apple released IR drivers for XP & Vista, so that open source driver isn't an option anymore. Some work for the trash now. So don't expect a direct implementation soon as my work was obsolete now. It could even be that nothing in MP has to be done to support this remote as Apple states that it will run out of the box with MCE. I'm going to play with Apple's new vista driver kit now and see what it will bring... Update: It doesn't work with MP without special remote support. I'm gonna rewrite my code to interprete the new commands I'm receiving now from the remote. So give me some more time and it should work. Good thing: The new driver should work for XP and Vista, so both platforms will be supported by MP's remote part. The Open Source driver I wrote that part originally for was for Vista only. I'll let you know when it's done.

| Portal User | You can use the freeware EventGhost (http://www.eventghost.org) to map the Arrow and Ok buttons to anything you like (e.g. keyboard input). The menu key doesn't work here. The Mac Mini remote (with the current BootCamp driver) is recognized as a HID device in EventGhost. This software is quite cool for other keys too ![]() |
