Default Built-in WinLIRC receiver support

Hi,

I'm new to MediaPortal and I really like it! Unfortunately, my Hauppauge remote receiver does not work properly (it causes the system to freeze, problem is known by Hauppauge but they could not yet fix it).

So I decided to use my WinLIRC receiver instead. But the existing plugin does not support some actions I need (like opening MyTV directly) and has some other known problems. That's why I decided to improve on this and developed a patch implementing built-in WinLIRC support, using the InputMapper providing all the actions needed and used by the other built-in remote receivers.

The patch can be found on Sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?fun...roup_id=107397

Devs, do you consider to merge the patch? I think it would be useful for others as well.

Regards,
Sven

Hi,

Just to let you know, I think the preference are full source files and
not .patch files for submissions.

Hi,

I did not know that, thanks for telling me!

I updated the tracker item (unfortunately I cannot change the initial description) and uploaded a zip file with the full files. So, despite the description, the zip now contains all modified and new files.

Again: developers, do you consider to merge the patch?

I have tried out your patch. It works wonderfully. With this patch the mapping of infrared receiver key presses to mediaportal functions gets as easy unsing winlirc as using an MCE remote.

Please developers, merge this patch!

Question

Hi,

could one of the developers please comment on my patch? If you do not like it, please tell me why. Or did just nobody notice it?

Hoping to get some feedback,
Sven

Hey Sven,
I am really glad you took some time to try to fix winlirc.
I had my remote working with most operations except the one that was needed most, direct channel change in My TV!. I am hoping this will fix this.
I will report back and let you know how it goes. I was just about to send Microsoft another $50 for the MCE remote.

Thanks again for helping with this , It really is nice to be able to use any remote that I want with my home made IR reciever.

Hey Sven, Can you provide some instructions on how to use/install your Winlirc patch.

I have downloaded it but it looks like it is only source code files.
Could you give me a little instruction on how to set it up?

I have Winlirc installed and basically working it's just that I can't map certain things.

Thanks

Hi slug54,

unfortunately, I'm quite busy at the moment (several exams for the German "Abitur," similar to British A-level) so just a quick note:

This is a source code patch, primarily supposed to be merged to the main code base by the developers (so that it will be available in the next release and nightly). Unfortunately, no developer has noticed/commented on my patch yet (maybe you know how to draw their attention to this patch).

So the only thing you could do (apart from contacting the developers because of the merge) is to compile MediaPortal yourself (there are instructions in the forum and the wiki). If you do so, you can include my patch (the source code files) and build your custom MediaPortal version. But as soon as the next release is published, you'd have to do this again (or if you want to use the nightlies every time you install a new version).
So in the long run, the only good solution would be to merge the patch.

Thanks for the info Sven.
I have comiled MP before, But I have not done it since the seperate TV-Server
was added.
I may try it. I really like being able to use any remote I want to configure.
Before you made your patch were you able to change channels in MyTV by pressing the numbers? I can't but nearly everything else I have tried works fine.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Sven,

I have tried to compile your sourcecode with the current SVN Version. Without your Files it works fine. Due to the error messages I think that there are some objects referenced which do not exsist in the current svn version.

I have started this Thread http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/im...le-t22258.html in the Improvement Suggestions forum maybe on of the devs take a look on the code or the idea of better WinLIRC support.
