Question Power struggle in Media Portal ?

Hi I am real big fan of MP and are wondering what’s going on whit MP ?
I hope I am completely of beat but it looks like there has bin a sort of power struggle in MP!
I hope I am wrong, but if not, hope that my post is taken as positive criticism.

Since the post on the home page of dirty laundry about Vanessa some time a go it seems there have bin some changes and they don’t look all for the better.
And for right ore wrong its was not the way grownups’ should behave and some of it showed some bad tasted.

I see that some members that always contributed a lot bin banned
I now that when you talk mostly true IRC and the BB some people can piss you off.

But some time it can help a lot in a team effort if you take a step back and take a breath, a lot of things can be solved that way.
It’s the goal you all want that should matter, not some one’s ego.

I take just as a example and maybe it’s the wrong one, just saying how I see it from the sideline.

Anonymous the guy had over 5000!!!! Post here so I think he had his heart in it for making MP a better program.
Now when I now see one of his post’s I see BANNED whit flashy colors like it’s a damn soap commercial and that it is funny!
I really don’t like to see things like this, it’s a bit of bad taste for some one how tried making MP better.
I think that it properly really hurt the guy after spending so many ours on MP trying to make it better, and then taking a way his hobby.

I leave in the middle if he done something wrong ore not, properly he dit, but for shore he was not the only one.
If you are in a group like this. “and I don’t now if its done ore not” have you taken the time to give the persons a call and try to work things out, ore by trying to be the sound of reason.
I would take a deep breath and give him/her a call and try to talk tings out, it dossent cost that mouths to call anymore, its easier to flame some one on forum then in real life.

I now this is not always easy, I now I worked whit 6 colleagues together and stared a business together, after a wile we got some problems over money and other things, and almost slaughter the chicken whit the golden egg’s.
One of the colleagues stood up and was the voice of reason.

I learned 6 important tings that day

1 others are some times right to, and you also can be both right, try to look from the other side.
2 you really don’t have to like the people you work whit!
3 mutual respect helps a lot, ore at least if you tread the other one whit it, even if you don’t have it, your not married to them!
4 try to be the voice of reason, ore at least show you (try to) understand there points, it’s the best way to go true life people feel les threatened by you and more willing to listen.
5 just listen what others are saying and see there point.
6 if you feel you are to close to the problem find some one that stands in the middle and him find a solution that works for both sides

Remember all of you wand to make MP the perfect media center program!
And you all wane have fun doing it.

Like I was saying in the beginning hope I am really wrong, but if not I hope this will help a little to think a bout.

Anyway I still love MP and have a lot of respect for the people, and how put so mouths work and effort in this, and hope it gets even better and better then it is all ready

My two cent, greetz X.

IMHO it's a kind of non-event. That did not happen within the MP team.

BTW "Anonymous" is not a real user account. This was a message placeholder for people who did not log in. But I do agree that the 'banned' banner is not really appropriate.

Ugh... let's not rehash this anymore, please.

MediaPortal is great! Let's just keep our focus on that, shall we?

You have been terribly mistaken with this. As the poster above said, there was a clearing of users that had not logged in for over a year. Everyone could have his account reactivated on short notice. Their posts of course still exist. With the change of the forum software they all became "Anonymus" and this flashy banned sign.

But I totally agree with you that this sheds a questionable light on mp, if people don´t know this background. I was in an old forum post the other day and half of the posts had the banned sign. Looked really bad, like after a big forum struggle.

But I am sure, luke and i-loop will be able to solve the issue with the banned sign, there´s been so much progress on the forum sw lately.

To the other things: I am not aware of any power struggles and your headline is inspite of the "?" a bit dramatic to mee. Agree with your 6-point list and the good intention of your post!

See, I've been here for ages and I also thought that a lot of users had been banned. I was trying hard to figure out who I hadn't seen around for a while.

I'm glad that has been cleared up, as I thought there was a secret banning of users going on. Maybe just lose the "Banned" neon sign? It does look really bad.

No way! Only spambots get banned immediately, never users. That would take a while to happen.

Note: NO USER has received a PERMANENT BAN yet.

You are totally wrong if you think that this user was one single person.

let me tell you how the old forum software worked:
i.e. we have 5 users
user 1 - 10 posts
user 2 - 20 posts
user 3 - 10 posts
user 4 - 10 posts
user 5 - 20 posts

if i delete these users, all the posts they have done will show Anonymous as poster with a total postcount of 70 posts.

This means that the Anonymous user will be shown as author of all posts from ppl who have been deleted with the old forums system.
vBulletin handles that differently.
If i would i.e. delete your user account, all your posts would still show player-x
but instead of "Portal Member" it would show "Guest" as user title.
i have droped the postcount of Anonymous to 1 and set him to usergroup guest. so this misunderstanding should not happen again.
