All, I logged a fault with ATI regarding this and they have forwarded my request onto the Catalyst Crew. When I asked when the fault would be reviewed, this is the response they gave.

When an issue will be resolved is not released ahead of time.

The Catalyst Crew Team gets feedback like this all the time on driver issues, which they evaluate and prioritize, the more instances they see the higher the priority. They also are in contact with the different developers, both hardware and software and address thier issues as well. If mediaportal has reported the issue it generally gets a higher proiority then end users feedback.

Hopefully one of the developers will see this and assist in logging this with ATI to increase our chances of a speedy resolution

I have made a submission to ATI myself, which have been sent to the Cat.-team.

Hopefully a MP-dev. will contact ATi. Now everybody: submit your log and specs.

I have the same issue with my ATI 690G Chipset / x1250 GPU HTPC (Asus Pundit). Mediaportal freezes with all Catalyst versions after 7.2. It happens only but always if I try the filmstrip view (pictures or MP3 albums).

Otherwise the 7.2 is not the best driver at all... My Panasonic 42'' Plasma underscans the HDMI signal (black edge around), with the newer drivers I could set the underscan/overscan option in CCC to use the whole screen. I am stuck with this annoying problem... The flipY true-false trick did not function for me.

BTW there is an other bug: if I enable Hardware Acceleration (Avivo Video encoding from the ATI x1250) than the small preview window stays black (flickers nevery 2 sec with 1 frame). I have to disable it also.

What a dissapointing ATI product! I spent 1 day trying out 10different catalyst drivers (20x restart, 500 MB download, seraching the net) and at the end I am not able to use the features of the product (Avivo hardware acceleration, perfect fullscreen scaling through HDMI). Or is it a Mediaportal Bug (I mean freezing and thumbnail view problem)?

Does MediaPortal 2.2 freeze also or just the new 2.3 version? Anyone out there?

Edit:
btw with Catalyst 7.2 the skins are NOT working as they should, they just don't freeze. The mirror effect of the filmstrip view is missing completely!

Modded Skins are working with newer Catalysts: you MUST DELETE FLIPY="TRUE" and FLIPY="FALSE" ENTRIES completely. Change from true to fals are not enough. And they work, without the mirror effect though. Foofaraw Skin works for me wit Cat7.10 like that.

2.2 version does work fine with the later drivers. This fault started appearing when animations were introduced into MP. At least I think this is the cause of it all????

Have any devs tried conntacting ATi/AMD?

Ref.: They also are in contact with the different developers, both hardware and software and address thier issues as well. If mediaportal has reported the issue it generally gets a higher proiority then end users feedback.

I think though that the programming of media portal is the problem (direct X handling), and not the ATI stuff (hardware, driver or bios). Unfortunately the x1250 is very sensitive for it (my old PC with Radeon 9500Pro does not have this issue). I say this because I dont have VGA problems with any other applications with the x1250. So I hope that the MP Team get this in grip!

I read the complete thread cause I have the same negative effects (skin freezes) here with an M2A-VM HDMI board and installed 7.10 CCC (using this PC just for recording, not as main HTPC).

I remember that I had a greater version than 7.2 before upgrading 2.3.0 (and it was still working!). That reminded me of further problems with BIOS versions and ATI drivers (non Asus drivers) in the past.

On my HTPC I switched to a Gigabyte MA69GM-S2H with a clean WindowsXP install and the shipped AMD drivers (CD Version is 1.12). Having a look at the install files shows up:

DriverVer=06/14/2007, 8.390.0.0000

What CCC version is it? It should be higher version than 7.2 and is running fine using latest stable MP release on the Gigabyte board. That makes me wonder if it is a problem of MP, BIOS/Board or the ATI driver...

EDIT:
After installing the latest ATI driver from the Asus homepage (date 2007/04/17) the problems are gone with the Asus M2A-VM HDMI. I´m using BIOS 1101 with the board...

Think you'll find they are really old drivers which is why problem has gone! 7.11 drivers were only released at end of November. I had the Asus board and gave up with it. Now using the Gigabyte 690g board and seems much better with a number of issues!
