I have the same problem, so ended up using WMV instead, it has come a long way and is pretty close in quality.

Did you ever get this working? I have had the exact same problem with all versions of MP that I have ever used starting with 0.1.0.3. My log is an exact replica of yours and I also have the Elecard filter installed.

Even on high I get ~150MB files of 30 Min DVB stream therefore the quality is "portable" at best..

Is there a way to increase the parameters of the presets?

There is a difference between the Elecard MPEG2 Video codec and the Elecard MPEG2 Decoder. One is free, the other is not.

I have the following installed and can compress to XVID without a problem.

Moonlight Elecard MPEG Decoder Pack v2.1.4316

Is that all you need to have installed? IE: Do you still need ffdshow (or anything else) installed?

The current Elecard Decoder Pack available for sale is version 3.0, do you know if that version will work as yours does?

I think the parameters are hard-coded, i seem to remember that its 768kbit/s. How much would you like it to be?

768kbit/s gives okay quality for most things, at least when i viewed them on an 28" CRT
