You can also convert the dvr-ms to mpeg2 with MediaPortal. Take a look at
my TV -> Recorded TV -> Compress

As long has you have some sort of DVD software installed (PowerDVD, etc), you should be able to play them.

thanks for your quick replies. i am trying the auto-compress now, haven't seen that before. cool.

i do have all sorts of codecs installed. wmp v9, video lan (vlc media player), they don't do it.

i do have powerdvd, though it's version 2.55, that must be like from the flintstones. will look into upgrading that too.

thanks again

In my quest to try and find a way to enable playback of .drv-ms in W2K with sound I stumbled upon this post and bookmarked it. After extensive searching and not finding anythin in the search engines I decided to try and come up with a solution. After a lot of trial and error I believe I have a workable solution.

I am not trying to spam this forum with the link provided. Because of the length of the procedure it is easier to give a link to my original procedure than post it in every forum that I have bookmarked. I'm just trying to help out those peeps (like myself) that don't want to have to use XP.

Play dvr-ms with sound in W2K

Hope this helps.
