Default feedback from a newcomer

i used to use meedio but since it got sold to Yahoo! i turned to MP

after initial testing id like to get some questions answered

meedion ran great on my axp1800+ 512MB 6600gt on my epson emp-tw6000 (1280x720 projector with hdmi)

i installed MP and first thing that bugged the hell out of me was that even if i disable the my pictures module, the setup program says i need to configure it (why?!)

then onto using it
i configured nvdvd for dvd's and sticked in the first dvd that i found
it took AGES for the dvd to actually start playing is this because of bad coding or is MP so powerhungry that my cpu isnt enough (dvd was mint condition so dont even try to blame it on that )

first serious error came when i pressed the "start" button on my mce remote while the dvd was playing in the menu. the small now playing window seemed to intercept all the "arrow" commands from the remote, which resulted in a deadlocked MP

Also the dvd player didnt automatically zoom the widescreen, but non anarmophic source to fill the 1280x720 screen

then i tested random xvids, divxs etc i had lying around, all was peachy, apart from the now playing window when browsing thru the menus while some video was playing. the window was all over the place, over the menus, not visible, and from time to time actually in the right place!

not trying to undermine the thing thats going on here but this product seems nothing like i got used to with meedio (sadly)

some questions
- is it possible via plugins or something to
a) get a meedio type OSD when playing videos (when you play up once you get a progress meter, when twice you get the usual commands like play, menu, subs, angle etc)
b) get rid of the preview window
c) other things to make mp run smoother
d) something else i forgot but will prolly ask again later when i play around with MP more

flame me, help me, either way is fine by me

There are a few ways that you can help:
  • Maybe become a MediaPortal Donator.

Maybe give some time to making things work the way you want by changing the code.

Maybe give some time to reporting the items causing you a problem either as bug reports at http://mediaportal.elite-squad.net or as feature requests in the appropriate forum.

Try to be constructively critical as I'm sure you wouldn't like people aggressively criticising your freely produced work.
It's easy for someone to produce something if they work on it full-time and are paid to do it - many of the devs will already be software developers holding down a full-time job and presumably have enough problems juggling that with other comittments.

Be patient: things are getting better all the time!

But they will get better faster if you provide help in the appropriate way and ask politely!

If your tv\video window are showing wrongly, try 2 things, first change the codec to default one, secondly we always recommend bluetwo skin and get everything working ok within that skin (always upto date with new developement) and then try another skin.
As for the other differences between meedio and MP you will get used to them.
And this is work in progress, with everyone on this forum helping in there own way.
Hope you resolve your issues, but post 1 at a time otherwise it can be overwhelming for 1 person to know everything and answer correctly.

http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/ is the bug tracker which is the place to search before posting bugs.

The elite-squad link will direct you to the test team forums where you can report bugs - there's also a tool you can run that will gather information about your system plus mediaportal logs so that it can be attached to the bug report.

If you pick one of the forum topics for bug reports at the test team forums it will contain a sticky thread giving a link to the test tool.

Bugs don't get put into Mantis until they're confirmed by other testers.

Thanks
