Default Frame accurate editing of h264 .ts files

Hi

In NZ our DVB-T HDTV uses H264 and AAC audio. I want to edit recordings to cut out music videos.

My current method is to.
Re-encode to h264 aac file using handbrake
Use mkvmerge to cut file at timeframes and split the file into seperate mkv music video files.

The problem is i can't find an h264 cutter that is frame accurate, most only cut on the I frames and don't support re-encoding so you can cut at an accurate frame.

Does any know any software that does frame accurate cutting?

If not I guess I will have to re-encode to a different format eg. xvid.

A new version of VideoRedo with frame-accurate H.264 editing is imminent - see ETA on h.264 version available for all? - Page 7 - VideoReDo MPEG Editor Forums

In your current method, if you are re-encoding anyway, why not do the 'cutting' at that point i.e. just re-encode the exact clips you need ?

Hey Kiwijunglist,

I use Handbrake and then SolveigMM to cut out the music videos. I convert to avi format in Handbrake and select "MPEG4 XVid" under video settings.

My only issue currently is that some of my videos have shrunk in width - any reason for this that you can think of?

Regards

Graham

I don't have any problems with width shrinkage in handbrake.

Hmm .... interesting.

I notice it's only the videos with the "Divx" logo in the bottom right. I cannot see this on the original recording though? Is it possible that it's part part of the recording which Handbrake picks up and then sizes up to the logo causing the shrinkage?

The Divx logo was a bit of a "red herring" sorry - it's on all videos and appears and then disappears again.

So what is the best option when converting? - select custom crop and leave with "0" defaults??
