Default General Remote Question

HI,

I'm new and first post and all, I have been using Media Portal for oh,, 20 minutes now. And from all appearences its good.

But I have one question about it. I have been holding off buying a tv card but I think I have now settled on the one I want. Its the Terratec Cinergy PCI-e with the Dual Tv Tuner, which according to the compatability part of the site should work fine.

However, and this is my question.

As I will not be using an MCE remote I will be using the Terratec remote (and this goes for other types of remotes as well) how do I set it up to be utilised by the software properly? I was guessing I might have to use the Firedtv section and program each button as that hauppage section suggests that it needs drivers for the IR and the terratec remote (as far as I can tell is not IR)

I did a search in the forum and have spent a good hour or so looking through the support section but I may just have missed the instructions on setting up a "different" type of remote. But maybe I am also searching for the wrong thing.

If someone could just simply post a "your looking in the wrong place you noob! try this link post" that would be helpful in itself.

For the past however many hours I have been poring over every piece of info I can find on the Media Portal site for remote controls but I can only find information pertaining to hauppage/mce or other Ir type remotes.

Am I to assume that nobody had tried to set up the terratec rf remote with media portal or any type of rf remote at all?

Oh, ok. I see... Thats pretty simple really and its handy they provide that software.

Thanks for you help I will give it a shot when the card arrives.

I was worried that I may have to get a different/cut down card and then buy the MCE remote as well which believe it or not would be more expensive then just buying the whole package complete with the remote.

Again thanks for your help.

X10 RF remotes are supported... Dunno if your remote follows the X10 specifications?

From what I gathered in the hours of rummaging is that the terratec remote comes with some software that allows you to link your remote keypresses to a keyboard button press. This of course in itself would eliminate any problems.

But I shall check to see what standard it uses, not much information on their website so I may have to email them

I have also been looking at the PCI-e dual DVB-T card from Terratec and wondered about the same questions as you did.

Is the remote control RF? What a shame Then i can't use it i guess... Media Portal is running on my Windows Server 2003 in the basement, so im not sure af a RF remote can reach all the way down there.
