Me again...

I installed directx 9.0C and tried media portal. It loaded up the new setup wizard where the system hung. This did at least give me a new log which is:

You have enabled the Hauppauge remote control but don't have the IR driver part installed properly. I think the log says it all.

And do you think that is what causes it to freeze? It never did when I had the previous card and also, I haven't got far enough into the setup to enable the remote, where would i go about disabling it.

Also, I've found the computer completely crashes when I run direct 3d test and direct draw test in dx diag.

Sorry if I keep asking stupid questions

It does sound like perhaps the remote is not the problem (or at least not the only problem) as the DirectX tests are also failing. I have no idea what could be causing this as you have reinstalled windows, changed drivers, etc. I would get support from your video card manufacturer about the DirectX issues, if you can.

Do you think there could be something physically wrong with the graphics card or is that fairly unlikely?

I only bought the damn thing because I need the tv-out as my flatmate keeps complaining about the monitor which now accompanies the tv in the front room. Slightly random question...

Is there such a thing as a tv-out card which only does that and would run along side an agp graphics card?

Not thats supported by MP no. Only the card doing the tv out can use the DX acceleration.
