Default hauppage MCE type remote(45 button) stopped working in RC4
Thus worked fine in RC3 - in RC4 the arrow buttons and dvd control buttons work fine but colour buttons,back button,vol button and ch/pg button do not work. I also have a microsoft mce 2005 european receiver and remote which works fine. I have installed the hauppage drivers as suggest in config and tried selecting hauppage or microsoft or both but no good. I'm also getting an error on closing MP now which states 'HcwHelper has encountered a problem and needs to close'. This is new too. It occurred in both RC4 and also with the latest SVN applied.

Any ideas?

I also had this once with RC4. I do not know for sure, how I solved it. It was a driver issue with my Hauppauge Remote. Afaik I did first install old drivers and than applied the new ones (those from the MP site).

Try turning "extended logging" on. This might give us a better clue.
This can be found on the MCE and Hauppauge TABs in Configure->Remote...

Here seems to be the interesting part.

As mentioned above, I had the same effect once. Also with those entries in the log file. I never found the real problem, but I got it solved by installing old Hauppauge drivers from my CD (including the remote software) and updating to the new ones. It seems as if it is not enough to only install the IR32.exe from the MP page.

But perhaps mPod can shed more light on this...

If you have this remote, you have to unplug your original Microsoft remote to get the bundled one working. The remote on that picture is no Hauppauge remote, it's a MCE certified one and as a result doesn't work with the HCW drivers.

If you have this remote, you got another (system/driver) problem. Get drivers here, use HCWClear.exe and start from scratch as listed in Chris.Day's post.

Thanks v much to both of you - turns out the solution was to unplug my microsoft receiver in the office and then the remote worked fine in the kitchen using the bundled hauppage receiver (which as you say is not a hauppage remote but a mce bundled with my hauppage card).

The setup I have is that I use a KVM to run my mediaserver PC to my kitchen LCD tv but I use the mediaserver in my office - thus I had 2 IR receivers hooked up - one on the end of the KVM in the kitchen and the other into the PC in the office - that way I could use one remote in the office and the other in the kitchen - this all worked fine in RC3
The problem I have now is that in RC3 I could hook up 2 IR receivers to one PC and in RC4 I can't. I accept this might be an odd setup but I wonder why RC4 doesn't support this while RC3 did?

Implementation of MCE remotes has changed completely because of the new custom mappings for MCE remotes & HID devices. The "new" code only supports one MCE receiver (or several identical, didn't check that), but not two different MCE receivers, as you have it. Sorry to tell you, but currently your setup with two different MCE receivers does not work anymore.

You might wanna try a "cheat"... Enable HID input devices in config (& MCE remote, of course). This might bring some buttons of your Hauppauge MCE remote back to life while having both receivers plugged in. Not all buttons will work, but some. Background: Your original MCE remote works with the MCE implementation, your Hauppauge MCE remote will work as HID device then. Just give it a try, it might work.

Sorry if the answer to my question has been answered before. I only just downloaded Mediaportal RC4 and registered here. The program looks great, but my remote control (MCE remote with the big windows logo start button) doesn't have all the buttons correctly assigned (arrow keys work fine, but big start button doesn't do anything). I already had installed Windows Media Player and it worked fine there. I found the keymapping part in Mediaportal, but I haven't got a clue how to actually map the keys. Can some1 post a link or easily explain how to map keys?

Just wanted to add that it was not enough to install the drivers mentioned in mPod post and then install IR32 from MediaPortal homepage, I needed to run the Hauppauge setup program too since it updates the drivers in some way (you don't have to install all programs though).

Default mce remote in RC4 dont work
I have same problem. In RC3 I could use MCE remote from haupage hvr-1300. It worked fain. But in RC4 it doesnt work.
In RC3 in settings I saw nice picture of my remote but in RC4 I dont see it. Why?
