Default Hauppage WinTV PVR USB 2 not recognized

I'm trying to get MediaPortal set up so it will run the Hauppage WinTV PVR USB 2, but MP does not recognize it. I can get video through WinTV 2000 (the bundled software) but not MP. I tried going into setup, televison, capture cards and hit add, but still nothing. I got the line below from the log:

9/12/2006 6:45:01 PM device:Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder id:@device:pnp:\\?\usb#vid_2040&pid_2400#2401-00-0083b7e5#{65e8773d-8f56-11d0-a3b9-00a0c9223196}\capture

Hi,

Please download the attached CaptureCardDefinitions.xml and copy that into the directory where you installed MediaPortal (overwriting/backupping the existing one). Please report back if it works (or not).

Kind regards,
Michel

I have the pvr usb2 (non mce) and it did the same thing, even with the new definitions file:

9/13/2006 4:33:44 PM device:Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder id:@device:pnp:\\?\usb#vid_2040&pid_2900#7&2f106e0 4&0&5#{65e8773d-8f56-11d0-a3b9-00a0c9223196}\capture

the wintv applications from Hauppauge work ok, but it is not detected by MP. I am using xp pro sp2.

Chris

@chriscjs:

The entry in the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml looks ok to me for your card (so it should have been detected).

Kind regards,
Michel

The entry is not okay as there's a subtle difference. The card says it's PVR2, not PVR. I spent hours before finally spottng this and got MP to recognize my card. (Heck, beeing completely new to MP I practically spent hours before finding that CaptureCardDefinitions.xml was the place to look :-)

regards,
-tom

I wonder why Hauppauge did this? I took this as them trying to stick you with using their own software. I am happy that i have found out the reason why when I updated my drivers, it wold lock out 3rd party apps from acessing the card. When you install the latest drivers, it does change to PVR2 USB2 from PVR USB2.

what driver-version do you use?

this new definition file works with 23178 (beta) and 24023 , but it does NOT work with latest: 24117

you can find the latest drivers here: ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr2_usb/base_cd/

Hello,
I just bought the PVR USB MCE and I was able to get it recognize by MP after changing the file to PVR2. However, I can still not see any thing on my screen. I always get a black screen. I'm able to scan the channels, the card found all of them but still nothing on the screen. I image that I have a MPEG decoder problem. How all of you that have this PVR USB card were able to make it work and see something else than a black box?
Thank you.
