Just checked with 'Device Manager' and I'm running 2.2.73.24117 and the latest CaptureCardDefinitions is what I needed to get MP to recognize my WinTV PVR USB2.

(in response to the previous message)
As soon as MP recognized my channels it also played LiveTV correctly, and I didn't have any problems with a blank screen.

FYI, this is exactly what I purchased:

BillyGates,
Thank you so much for your fast answer. I have tried so many possibilities to solve the problem that I'm getting completly confused. I have the same pvr usb that the one that you have. I bought it at best-buy. I'm also unable to use it with WinTV2000. So I image that it's not MP. Could you let me know what is the function of the red LED? Should it be on or off? Any other suggestions?
Thank you

The Red LED goes on when there's power to the box.

It seems to be dim when I first plug it in, and goes very bright after being in use. Once it goes bright, I don't notice it ever go dim again.

I primarily use XP Media Center and it worked right out of the box with that. (After I followed the directions to load the provided drivers on CD).

If WinTV isn't working I'm guessing you may have some sort of Video driver issue? You may want to work with Hauppauge support to figure out why WinTV2000 isn't working, then try and get MediaPortal working.

FYI, I'm doing this with a Dell Inspiron E1505 for my Media Center and am very happy and impressed with the WinTV PVR USB2 that I actually think provides better quality then some of the Comcast cable stations as the decoder seems to 'clean-up' some noise.

Good luck.
(FYI, I've never tried WinTV2000, I just used MCE and MP, so I have no clue about it )

MP does not use same "generic" way to access TV cards as many other programs, but you can make it support your drivers:

follow instructions in this thread, and it will work.:

Sorry but his (the card in the thread) is on the list, so he shouldn't have to submit a new template.

I started going through that as well because I saw that recommendation on another thread, than I found a different thread stating the new definition file fix.

anyway, the newest drivers did not work for me, WinTV2000 runs fine, ChrisTV and similiar stuff, but MP jjust gave an error message.

-maybe the definition file should contain information on what driver-versions are verified to work ?

Hi guys.

I have the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2 as well, but MediaPortal (0.2.0 stable) does not recognize it. I updated to the latest capture card definitions (as posted on page 1 of this thread). I tried the Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder driver v2.2.73.24117 and 24023, yet MediaPortal still says no cards found.

I quite literally started using MP by configuring the remote, works great with a small tweak, and watching videos using it. MediaPortal is so incredible! But since TV and TV recording are the main feature, it's a bit disappointing that I can't seem to figure it out. Is my mistake in using the stable version? Do I have to go to the daily?

Thanks for any ideas or what I can do to help identify the problem. I'm in IT, so I don't need much hand-holding, lol. My apologies if I've failed to skim the desired answer from a preexisting place on this website.

Hello,
I finally get my card working with Wintv2000 and MP. However, I have to unplug the power of the PVR USB2 each time I restart my computer. Do you have the same problem?
For the people where MP doesnt recognize the card. Check your card info into your device manager in control panel, system, hardware area. My card was under PVR2 USB2. I edited the DeviceCapture definition file with the "2" after every PVR for the PVR USB2 cards. Check also the PID of the card. I don;t know what the number is for but my was at 2900.
good luck

AlexandreUVa, thank you so much.

PID was 2900, not 2400, so if we copied the entry and modified the pid as below, that may help out some other future newbies.

<capturecard commercialname="Hauppauge PVR2 USB2" capturename="Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder" devid="vid_2040&pid_2900">

Cheers and thanks again,
Donovan

Thumbs up

I had the same troubles described previously.. thanks to all the posters here for the hints. I tried to add the card inside MP configuration and it said no card found.. that process probably added the line to the log file I needed for the next step. So look in the following log file and find your device ID string.
C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\log\Configuration.log

Once it's found.. I got mine working by changing the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file as described below.

Changed the line from:
<capturecard commercialname="Hauppauge PVR2 USB2" capturename="Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder" devid="vid_2040&pid_2400">

To:
<capturecard commercialname="Hauppauge PVR2 USB2" capturename="Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 USB2 Encoder" devid="vid_2040&pid_2900">

Thanks again guys.
