The system reboots instead of going into hibernation. Both Standby and Hibernation worked perfectly before I installed Mediaportal. The "allow S3 standby even though other devices present" is ticked. I downloaded the MCE standby Tool but the problem is not fixed. I did the following 3 times (and the described error was reproduced 3 times too): 1) Absolutely clean on-scratch installation of Windows XP Professional with SP2 integrated. 2) Installation of all needed and WHQL certified HW Drivers 3) Check Suspend to RAM -> Works fine. Check Suspend to Disk -> Works fine. 4) Manually create a system restore point called "Clean and ready system" 5) Installation of all available Microsoft Hotfixes 6) Check Suspend to RAM -> Works fine. Check Suspend to Disk -> Works fine. 7) Manually create a new system restore point called "All Hotfixes installed" 8) Installation of some software (DivX-Codes, WinDVD-5, Firefox, NAI Virus Scan, Winamp). Reboot. 9) Check Suspend to RAM -> Works fine. Check Suspend to Disk -> Works fine. 10) Manually create another system restore point called "Custom Software installed" 11) Installation of MediaPortal 0.2.3.0 without changing any defaults 12) The System Restore Software lists a new maschine generated entry called "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" 13) Check Suspend to RAM -> Works fine. Check Suspend to Disk -> Doesn't work anymore!!! (even MP isn't running). Does anybody know, what drivers or components included in MP-Setup make trouble with the Hibernation Function and how can I fix that? Thanks |

Country: | I'm experiencing somewhat the same issues, can you get back to working S3 if you restore back up to before installing MP? Haven't tried myself. Last few days I've been struggling with my htpc not being able to wake from S3. |

Usually if something causes MP\XP to restart it is HW driver orientated, may be mouse\keyboard or even a network problem, why MP triggers it unsure, (remember MP runs using .net, M$'s baby) but it does happen.

Country: | Hi, vote4tux, when you install MP for the first time could you skip the installing of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable & not run MP & test if S3 & S4 still works? After that if it still works, start MediaPortal configuration & click ok(to save the file) & then test again? This just to check out where it could come from.... Regards Roy |

I could not skip the installing of MS Visual C++ 2005 because there is no option in GUI Setup for skipping... While monitoring the System Restore Tool I catched the following fact: It seems like every MSI-based installation creates a new system restore point. Of course MS Visual C++ 2005 creates a system restore point too, because it's MSI-based. So in the first time I read your answer I believed MS Visual C++ 2005 isn't the root of all evil. In the past few days I tried some other tests to localize the error... First: Make a nLite-based Windows XP SP2 integrated silent installation (interaction not required) with all my needed WHQL certified hardware drivers to get a full working on-scratch installation in less than 15 minutes. Works great. Second: Install the stuff needed for audio and video en-/decoding Third: I decided to install the Microsoft Hotfixes at last because I know that everything works fine until this point and to ensure, that the microsoft packages are the latest installed (last write wins). Following section is only for understaying AMD Cool'n'Quit support and to make sure that the CPU is able to shut down correctly This point was an eye-catcher:Last installation was another fresh on-scratch installation with the correct (and only needed) CPU and Power Management drivers. I installed MediaPortal and did nothing more (no MP configuration, no MP start). Could you believe that S3 + S4 works? I couldn't! But it works! Now ... and this was really my last task ... I configured MP and start it (play some videos and music). Trying to go into hibernation mode after closing MP .... Hibernation doesn't work anymore ![]() What next to localize the error? Do you have an idea? Thanks in advance Last edited by vote4tux; 2008-01-08 at 10:03..

Country: | Hi again Roy, if I can help, I would do so. I am able to exactly monitor what changes are made to the system using a professional Software Management Environment where the Agent takes snapshots and "spy" everything that changes (e.g. Files, Registry, Mappings, Drivers, Rights, ACLs ...). So it is possible to get an exact "before" and "after" state. Any recommendations for the next tests? |

Country: | Just so we get this right once MP has been configured and the problem appears, say you reboot and then try, you get the same thing, no hibernation (this is just to check MP has not been running). So then if you uninstall MP from control panel, it then reverts to working (with or without rebooting), or does it then stay broken. Last edited by Paranoid Delusion; 2008-01-08 at 12:00.. Country: | Hi (yeah again )There is something you can try: If you restore to the point before MP was installed / started(where the the hib worked), you can Export registry setting "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usb" to a file. (open regedit -> mark the usb -> on file menu click on export & save it with a understandable name). Then get to a point where it doesn't work and merge the settings from the exported file, reboot (do not start MP), test if hibernation works, if it works start MP etc & test if hibernation still works(you may have to reboot between). This will show if it's the enable S3 trick that brakes hibernation for you. Regards Roy |

Country: | Hello Roy and Ray, thanks for your fast answers. I will test both: 1) exporting and joining reg keys (S3 switch) 2) (a) uninstalling and (b) uninstalling with system restore Please give me some hours (maybe one or two days) for testing. I will start with a new clean install and write down every step exactly for better understanding. Kind Regards, Jan |
