Default Improve Picture Quality?

I am using Purevideo as my decoder and it is plenty watchable through my standard 27" TV. But I decided to hook cable to my TV and to my PC so I could switch between my PC(Svideo) and normal TV to compare quality.

I put the TV on the same channel as the PC(hooked to the same TV with Svideo). I could see a good difference but mainly with cartoons. On normal TV the colors was more bright a vivid where on the PC they was more dull. Also the picture quality was more blurry. I am thinking I am probably stuck with this as it's normal on a analog cable connection. But I was wondering if there was some settings or something I could download that would make a big difference. If it's only minor improvement and not really worth it I don't want to bother.

You can adjust the brightness, contrast and colour saturation in the nVIDIA Pure Video decoder. When you have TV on, the nVIDIA icon will appear in the System Tray. Click on it and reduce the brightness a little (to produce good blacks) and increase the contrast a little (to produce good whites) and then tweak the colour saturation (I found that I had to reduce it a little).

The slight bluryness is probably a combination of your MPEG encoder (I assume you are using analogue TV on your PC) and the S-Video connection. Can you increase the bit-rate of your MPEG encoder - that might improve picture sharpness. Alternately, you can try ffdshow as a post-processor for sharpness.

HTH....

thx for the tips I will try them.

As for "Can you increase the bit-rate of your MPEG encoder" I am a newb and am not sure if or how I can. I got a PVR-150MCE if that helps. With ffdshow is that something I have to download and setup within mediaportal? I remember seeing that option in the settings.
