| I am trying to run media portal on my laptop by my TV strictly for music. No TV input, conversion, nothing but MP3's. I can not get it to work under the user account I setup for this. I changed the user account to be a member of administrators, and it still wont work. I re-installed media portal after adding admin rights, same thing. It opens a media portal splash screen for a few second then poof, it's gone. If I log into my account, which has always had admin rights, it works perfect. I even tried installing it with my account, then opening with the user I call Music, with that user having admin rights, same thing. BUT, if I log in as music, and browse to the .exe in the media portal folder, and right click Run As, then put in my user and password, it works fine. Basically I want this to work, on a BASIC user account so when I have friends over, they can play whatever music they want, without me worrying about some numskull messing up my system. Thus the need to limit the user rights on the music account. |

Country: | there's been a number of threads about this, so search for more info but from memory there are a number of things that Windows sets as admin only. the main one is the timeshift files that the streambuffer engine uses. They are marked as system files and need to be modified. I know you don't plan on using TV, but I guess this still needs to be chacked. MP also requires access to some registry keys that only an Admin can change. It's possible to change the security on these keys to be "general access". I can't remember the exact location and names of these keys, but like I said, a search should find them listed here. Check back in if you don't have any luck and I'll dig around. |

Country: | Try this thread. It should be still valid. This guy got it working by following the thread. http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/vi...ight=admin+sbe heheh, ironically he didn't follow my advice at the start of the thread and by the end found out it was the solution to the last of his problems... |

Country: | Hi, thanks for info for newbiew. MP works perferctly even with timeshifting through TV server, because as windows service it runs with System account and does everithing needed in admin rights, and it is safe. However, still in beta version. Wonder why "MP running in normal user account" is not listed as TVSever feature? Thanks to all involved in the project! |
