Question MediaPortal Freezing on startup.

Hello,

I'm currently trying to get MediaPortal to function and am having a problem when I launch it.

Specifically when I launch the App I get the splash screen that shows all of the components loading but it freezes when it begins loading DirectX, it freezes up. I left on that screen for about 30 minutes to be sure. The odd thing is that when it does this, I am unable to do anything else. If I continually hit Ctrl+Alt+Del between 5 and 15 times it will eventually unfreeze and continue loading. I'm running DirectX 9c. What have I done wrong? I tried the FAQ, looking at listed known issues, and searching the forum but so far no luck. Any Ideas?

I have had an issue a bit similar to this:

I solved this by not installing SP1 for .NET framework 1.1.

Yeah Muaddib, I read about that. I've been thinking about re-installing Windows to see if that fixes it but I seem to recall having done that before. Hopefully somebody here will have an answer.

And I dont think it was what solved my problem either. I installed a later svn and the problem was back, so it was probably just a coincidence that I removed SP1 and installed the right svn at the same time

Hi Guys

SVN's can break a working system, you have to be prepared for that possibility when you install, remember they are test releases.

I find keep a svn that you know works for you, and update once a month, if there is a must have improvement\addition, but be prepared to restore a backup of your existing setup if it all goes pear shaped.

Regards

I did another fresh install of xp this time, and installed everything as before except .net 1.1. Well it works fine now, not sure if it was .net or possibly the order I installed the apps & drivers. Same SVN and all the same programs/drivers. Thanks, I'm now a happy convert on my HTPC from xlobby.

for more info on these type of issues, you can check the logs in the team mediaportal\mediaportal\logs directory.
That will give more detail on the very last thing MP did before freezing.

Also, if you think it's DX related, go to start/run/dxdiag and that will try and diagnose any DX issues. Doean't usually find anything though.

Dohjoe, welcome to the MP community ;-)
